Happy 4th Of July 2017

It was SO NICE to have the day off from work. I let Frank sleep in and I got up and got some things done around the house. I've noticed that I feel better about life in general when the counters of my island in the kitchen are cleared off & clean. I went to WalMart to get a few last minute things we needed for our 4th of July party today. We went over to Mom & Dad's at 10:30 to get everything set up. Nate & Riannon win the award for the most crazy & festive outfits. Spencer's facial expression cracks me up. It's like he's looking at Nate & thinking, "this crazy man is my father." LOL!

Liz & her family showed up around 11:15 and we got the party started. Some people got in the pool while others preferred to sit in the shade and relax.

Nate did a great job grilling the hamburgers & hot dogs. We also had fruit salad, chips, dip, dessert, and drinks.

We made sure the boys slathered on the sunscreen once they got out of the pool to eat lunch. They have nice brown skin, but can still get sunburned.

I could not have imagined last year on the 4th of July how different my life would be this 4th of July. It's all thanks to this phenomenal man. YAY for getting to celebrate our first 4th of July together. I hope it's just one of MANY!

Nate wanted to try & beat Dad's record for staying on the barrel. He makes it look so easy, but it's actually really really hard.

He thought Dad's record was 10 minutes, so he was thrilled that he made it to 11:34. We called Facetimed Dad to say hi (and rub it in) and Dad just laughed and said his record is actually 22 minutes (and Mom confirmed that that's right so Dad wasn't just pulling our leg)! Poor Nate!

 SO MUCH FUN!!!
(Autumn was too busy swimming to be bothered with having to get out and take a picture).

I got to hold sweet Spencer & rock him to sleep. Heaven!

Nate got out the Corvette b/c it has to be driven every so often. The boys were beyond thrilled that they got to take turns going for a ride w/ Nate.

Riannon & Olivia had fun picking ripe tomatoes from the garden. Papa would be so happy to see how well the garden is doing this year and that we're using the produce from it.

Nate helped Nick & Savi to install their car seat for the baby once he arrives. The time is getting closer and we're so excited for them.

We came home and rested for a while, and then the missionaries came over at 7:00 to give Susan another lesson. They walked in like this looking super festive & the kids all loved it. The lesson went well, and Susan had brought some Polar Pizzas from Baskin Robbins for dessert.

At 8:30 we went over to Nick & Savi's to set off some small fireworks I had gotten at the store. Well, fireworks are illegal in our town and they ended up just being poppers & confetti instead of something we could light on fire. WHOMP WHOMP! We were all super disappointed. Especially since Frank & the boys are used to setting off all sorts of crazy fireworks in Oklahoma b/c they live out in the country & nobody cares if you set off all sorts of fireworks. We kept saying we'll have to celebrate the 4th of July in Oklahoma next year.

We drove over to our usual spot to watch the fireworks that one of the local cities puts on. We sat in the bed of the truck & waited for the show to start.

I love this shot of the boy's silhouettes watching the fireworks & that I caught one in perfect "burst" mode. The second they were over, we piled in the car and were out of there before any traffic hit. SWEET!

They boys said they were "starvin' Marvin" so Frank took them to In-N-Out b/c they had never tried it before. It was crazy to be eating at 11:00 at night, but I guess that's what you do during the summer on a holiday. What a fun & festive fourth!!!
