This bag of popcorn represents something special to me. My Dad is such a wonderful person, and he purposefully plants more in our garden than we can eat, so he can share it with this old couple in our ward. This couple, I'll call them the Smith's, are extremely poor and very very old. They have a hard time getting out and doing anything, so my Dad takes them food from our garden. The Smith's can't do much, but Sis. Smith always gives my Dad something to show their gratitude. Last week it was some AMAZING homemade pound cake. This time it was this bag of homemade cinnamon popcorn. When I first heard it was cinnamon popcorn, that sounded gross, but it was actually really yummy. But the neat thing that really struck me that I will always remember was the story my Dad told me about it. When the Smith's 3 kids were little, they LOVED having popcorn from the fair or the store, but they really couldn't afford it. So, Sis. Smith tried lots of different things to make their own popcorn, and finally came up with her own recipe for this popcorn that her kids loved. It was a special treat for them to have when they were little.
And I really don't know why, but that story really touched me. I love that a mother would go to those lengths to make something special for her kids. I love that a mother would make do with what she had and try to make it so her kids didn't feel like they were poor. I love that she would share such a neat story and a special treat with us. I love that Bro. & Sis. Smith give us what little they have to show their appreciation, even though they don't need to. What a neat couple. I am so glad we know them and can help them with what we have in our garden.
