This morning Autumn Bottom & I got up and got ready for church and had some breakfast. Then we went to church and it was really good. The lesson I taught today was about Samuel, the boy prophet. We talked about how even at a young age he had to make sure he was living his life in accordance w/ the Lord’s commandments or else the Lord couldn’t have called him to become the next prophet. We talked about times when the kids in the class had felt the Holy Ghost before, and it was really spiritual.
Sis. Heidenreich did another amazing sharing time today. She told the story of the Good Samaritan and then related it to how we can be Good Samaritans in modern times. She had 6 different kids come up and dress up in different outfits w/ different props and then had 6 other kids come up and pick something out of a bag that said, “I’m Trying To Be Like Jesus” on it that would show how to be a Good Samaritan. Here is what she used:
Problem | Solution |
A kid in a hoodie w/ a can of spray paint and a map b/c he is lost in life | Compass~we can be a compass and show him a better way to live |
An old grandma w/ her life story in a book | A listening ear~we don’t have to always spend $ to help someone |
A little brother that needs help with a puzzle | A watch~again, we don’t have to spend $. Sometimes just giving our time is the best thing we can do |
A mom w/ a basketful of laundry | Helping hands~sometimes it’s little things that mean the most like helping our parents |
A kid w/ a sign on that said, “I have been hurt” | A band-aid~Sometimes people are hurt physically and some are emotional or spiritual and we can help heal them |
A kid w/ a sign on that said, “I need money. I am homeless.” | A little wallet that had a note on it that said “unconditional love.” We can help with giving some $, but we also need to not judge |
After church we went over to Papa & Mimi’s house to wait for the Guthrie’s to get here. We used to be stationed at the same Army base as them 13 years ago. At 4:00, Mom & Dad got home from church and we had chicken divan while waiting for them to get here. My home teachers were coming over at 7:00, so Autumn & I had to leave at 6:45, right when Guthrie’s got there. My home teachers were going to be late, so I told them not to come tonight since we had company and went back over to Mom & Dad’s.
I can NOT believe how much the Guthrie kids have grown! Especially Benjamin (on the far left). He used to be my little baby that I loved and took care of when I would babysit them. He’s now 15 and has his learner’s permit!
Autumn must have subconsciously sensed that Ben was my favorite when he was little, b/c she was enamored w/ him and kept talking to him and trying to show him all of her toys.
It’s so fun having them here for a few days b/c they are such a fun family and make our boring house more alive. I LOVE Bro. & Sis. Guthrie and they haven’t changed one bit in the past 13 years! It’s so wonderful to reconnect w/ friends that we haven’t seen in years and it’s as if no time has passed at all. Those are the best types of friends…the ones where you can just pick up right where you left off.
Autumn & I finally left at 9:00 so I could get her home and into bed and then I watched Army Wives and Drop Dead Diva. I have to wake up an hour earlier than usual tomorrow b/c we have an early meeting tomorrow at work.
