Where Have I Gone Wrong?

IMG_6649 This morning when we woke up, I gave Autumn a bath and then she wanted some “Ogre” (AKA yogurt) for breakfast.  She opened the fridge to get some and took out this can of Dr. Thunder (knock off of Dr. Pepper) and said, “Look, Mama!  BEER!”  I thought maybe I misheard her and asked her what she had said.  She said, “It’s BEER, Mama!”  I about died, b/c I have NO IDEA where she would have seen or known what beer is.  It’s definitely never been in our house or anywhere that she’s been.

The only thing I can think is she meant root beer (b/c she drinks that a lot at Mom & Dad’s house), or she heard about real beer at school.  But I hope she didn’t hear it at school, b/c she’s only three years old!  I thought, “What have I done wrong as a mother,” but then realized I could use it to teach her about beer.  We talked about how beer is not good for you, just like smoking is bad, and that we don’t drink beer.

IMG_6650 I was glad I was able to use that as a teaching moment and that we went to church today.  I teach the 9 year old kids and our lesson was about Samson and how we need to keep the covenants we make with Heavenly Father so that we can have his help and protection.  At the beginning of the class, I had a push up contest for whoever wanted to participate.  We talked about how it’s important to have physical strength, but that spiritual strength is more important.  Samson’s strength wasn’t in his hair…his hair was just a symbol of the covenant he had made with God.  And when that covenant was broken, he no longer had Heavenly Father’s protection.  I also thought it was interesting that so often people think the Word of Wisdom is something new, but it’s not b/c Heavenly Father told Samson’s mom to avoid drinking alcohol and to only eat certain foods.  Anyways, it was a good lesson and the kids really enjoyed it.

IMG_6653 Autumn insisted that she wear her nice Christmas dress from last year to church today.  When we got home I told her we should take some pictures of her in her pretty dress.  I went to get my camera and came back to find this…she had found her nasal medicine and was pretending to use it.  She’s so classy…wearing a pretty ball gown w/ a thing up her nose!  Ha ha!

IMG_6654 I told her to do a princess smile and this is what I got!  She even crossed her little hands in front of her.  She’s such a little princess and I love that she’s a girly girl.

IMG_6655 Then Nick was teasing her and said something to her, so she put her hands on her hips and started scolding him and then started laughing. I’m so thankful to have such an adorable little bug in my life.

autumn Yesterday I was looking back at some pictures of July 2009 and then July 2008 just to see how much she has changed.  Look at how short her hair was just two years ago!

IMG_2820 Anyways, after church we went over to Mom & Dad’s to get dinner ready when Lex & Andrew & Dad & Nick got home from work.  Lexie had started some creamy chock pot chicken and I wanted to try a zucchini bar recipe that Christine gave me.  But, Mom didn’t have any powdered sugar for me to make cream cheese frosting, so I called Johnson’s to see if we could borrow some.  Everyone wanted to come w/ me so we went over and Curt took us out in the backyard to show us how big the baby goose he bought a few months ago had gotten.  It was so soft, and Autumn had fun petting it, but Andrew was scared and hid behind Lexie.

IMG_2822 I noticed that there were some peaches growing on a tree by where the goose was and asked if we could have one.  He told us to help ourselves and they were SOOOO good and juicy and sweet and fresh off the tree.  Lexie insisted on taking a picture of me enjoying my peach b/c I kept oohing and aahing about how good it was.  And look at Autumn…like mother, like daughter.

IMG_2830I liked making them b/c they are yummy and moist like zucchini bread, but are super easy and you don’t have to get tons of bread pans dirty.  My only complaint would be that they aren’t super flavorful, but they’re still good and we ate half a pan in just one night.

IMG_6658 Dad said that he and Andrew had a surprise for Autumn.  So, they took her in to see the scary bat.  They had put some new monthly objects on the scary bat.  Dad said they needed one for January b/c they had missed that month, so they went up in Mom’s craft room to find something.

IMG_6659The red hat represents December (Christmas).
The party blower represents January (New Years).
The heart represents February (Valentine’s Day).
The clover represents March (St. Patrick’s Day).
The egg represents April (Easter).
The flower represents May (Mother’s Day)
The tie represents June (Father’s Day).

I wonder what people think when they walk in our front door and see this big hideous bat w/ all these random things pinned on it?  LOL!

IMG_2824 After watching a movie (Shark Tale) the kids wanted to go w/ me to take the powdered sugar that we didn’t use, and a plate of zucchini bars over to Johnson’s.  The kids loved the fish tank and were pretending to tickle this big fish that kept swimming past them.

IMG_2825 We had to stop by the swing set to play for a little bit on the way home.  I am shocked that Autumn actually likes to swing now and not only asks me to push her high, but “scary high.”  She used to HATE swinging when she was little, but now she loves it.  We didn’t stay out there for very long b/c it was hot and humid and the bugs were starting to attack us.

IMG_6661 We spent the remainder of the evening just relaxing and watching movies and playing.  The kids spent some good snuggle time w/ Papa while watching TV.  I hope someday they realize how blessed and lucky they are to have such a loving and caring and wonderful Papa.
