Today at work it was a little slow, and then I had to sit on the freeway for 30 minutes b/c there was a stalled car in the HOV lane and 5 lanes of traffic had to merge down to 2. But, I finally got to my little bug and she was super excited to see me today and had a lot of energy. We stopped and grabbed a $1 burger at Wendy’s and used our keychain thing to get a free Frosty. After filling our tummies, we went to Bath & Body Works to get some soap that was on sale, b/c I just ran out of all the soap I bought last year. I’m glad it lasted a whole year. Autumn was such a good helper and loved sniffing all the different soaps to pick which ones we should get. She also insisted on carrying them around in her bag. She was not very happy when I had to take them away from her to put them up on the counter to pay for them.
She wanted some of the Frosty, which we had taken into the store so it wouldn’t melt in the car. She had it all over her upper lip and looked so funny and almost like she had a moustache. But she didn’t care and was having a good time.
We drove across the street to Target to get a few things and of course we had to stop by the Dollar Spot to see if they had something we just couldn’t live without. I told Autumn she could have one, and ONLY one thing. She had picked out some Dora stickers but then saw this pack of sparkly and glittery pencils and those Dora stickers were out of her basket in a heartbeat. She’s on the phone b/c Lexie called and Autumn wanted to talk to Andrew. We went to check out and the lady checking us out was laughing that Autumn was talking on the cell phone and had her Ariel doll in her very own shopping basket.
We left Target and went out to WalMart to pick up some pictures I had ordered online earlier in the day. We also got a few things we needed (and a few we didn’t). We were walking past an aisle and Autumn picked up a box and started shaking it and said, “Is this have candy inside, Mama?” I thought she had some toothpaste but then I looked at the name on the box (Preparation H) and just started laughing and told her no and to put it back. She was starting to get cranky so we hurried and got the rest of what we needed and headed home.
It was nice to just relax at home and pick up the house a little bit. I gave Autumn a bath and then she wanted to try out the new curlers we bought at the store, so I let her hair dry and then put curlers in while we watched America’s Got Talent. Mom called and she made it safely to Utah to help Rufio. We miss her already, but are glad she can be there. I told her to not have any fun without me (jokingly), b/c I wish I could be there too. Rufio is doing a lot better and is still in the hospital, but is on the physical therapy side, which is really good news.
I was watching Primetime’s What Would You Do series and they were showing some teenage boys beating up on a homeless man (they were all actors) to see what people would do. Every single time they tried it, someone would come over and tell the boys to stop. They wondered what would happen if they put a baseball bat into the mix…just to see if people would still say something even though the boys had a weapon. People still got involved and would tell the boys to leave. I don’t know why, but I just started crying when I saw that. I cried b/c it made me so sad and mad and upset that anyone would think they have the right to harm another human being like that. They were saying that a little 10 year old boy was convicted of physically harming a homeless person! Then I was crying b/c of how everyday people were willing to risk getting hurt themselves in order to defend and protect someone that was helpless. It just made me think of the lesson we had in sharing time last week about the Good Samaritan. I never expected to have such an emotional reaction, but I did.
