This morning we woke up at our usual time and watched a little TV and then headed down to breakfast. We had the kids just go down in their jammies so they didn’t spill food on their church clothes. Autumn was less than thrilled to be seen in her princess jammies, and Andrew was just making a silly face when I snapped this picture.
We finished our breakfast and then got the kids ready for church. Andrew looks so dapper in his outfit w/ a little nametag that says, “Future missionary.”
You know me…I can’t resist a kissing cousins picture. Jon came by the hotel around 8:40 and we followed him over to church while Mom stayed and got cleaned up and checked out of the hotel and then went over to the apartment to help Lexie. They announced that Lexie had had the baby and when they said he was 10 lbs 1 oz, you could hear an audible gasp from everyone in the congregation. It was pretty funny. Autumn & I were going to stay for all 3 hours, but ended up just staying for sacrament b/c I wanted to spend time w/ Lexie (and kiss on the baby).
Autumn was bored waiting for Andrew to come home from church and so she started walking around on her bent toes! I’ve never seen her do that before and we were all creeped out by it, which made her laugh and do it even more. I kept asking her if that hurt and she said no. Weird! I helped Mom get dinner ready by peeling the carrots and potatoes and making the manly jell-o.
Jackson was actually awake for a few hours this afternoon. We laid him down on the floor so he could stretch and he was fussy for about 1 minute and then was fine. It looks like he’s screaming bloody murder here, but he was just whining a little. I thought it was so cute.
He ended up liking being on the floor and was looking around at everything with such wonder and awe.
I just love those chubby little cheeks! Jon bought these blankets for Lexie yesterday when he needed to get out of the house for a little bit. She told him which kind to get and they’re really thin but nice and had such cute designs on them.
Autumn asked if she could hold Baby Jackson “all by herself”. She did a good job and kept giving him soft kisses. I kept telling her we need a new baby at our house (but I kind of need to get married first). LOL!
He has such big blue eyes. There were times when he would be looking around and it made me wonder if he could see angels. I wonder how thin the veil is for these sweet and precious souls who are so fresh from Heaven?
Autumn kept wanting to hold Jackson, so I had her come and sit on my lap so I could help her. I guess we weren’t doing a very good job since 1/2 of his mouth is covered w/ the blanket. But, he’s such a good-natured baby that he didn’t fuss when Autumn was holding him.
Jon & Andrew got home from church and Lexie wanted a picture of her 3 boys together. Such handsome men!
We had Andrew hold Jackson for a few pictures and when we were done he very innocently said, “Can you get him off of here now?” We all got a good laugh out of that. It’s amazing how boys and girls are wired so differently. Autumn couldn’t get enough of Jackson and Andrew was kind but indifferent to him.
Life doesn’t get much better than this…blogging with a brand new baby asleep on my chest. The only thing that could have made it better was if a football game was on in the background. Mom even brought me a bowl of freshly steamed carrots w/ butter and salt and pepper. YUMMY!
Autumn had a little bit of a melt down b/c her schedule is off and she was tired. I told her she couldn’t eat in her Mulan dress and to put on one of Andrew’s shirts so she didn’t get spaghetti on her white t-shirt. She didn’t want to and back talked to Mom, so she got put in time out. Jon took a picture of her and she was NOT happy. She started sobbing uncontrollably and was a stinker for a while. It will be good for her to get back into a routine this coming week.
Mom is so amazing and wonderful and has such a gift/knack/talent for loving others and taking care of them. She made enough food to feed an army (there was so much food in the fridge we couldn’t fit it all in) and it was so good. She makes sure everyone is full and happy and loved and comfortable. She even let me hold Jackson most of the time I was there, which is a huge sacrifice for her since she loves babies more than the average person. But, she did manage to sneak in some snuggles when I was busy helping Autumn or going to the restroom.
After we had a great meal of garlic mashed potatoes, gravy, and roast, we put on Count of Monte Cristo (Lexie asked that I bring it down w/ me).
Andrew & Autumn weren’t that into the movie and preferred playing games on the iPad or watching Rio on the iPad. Andrew’s face here cracks me up!
After Count of Monte Cristo was over, it was 4:45 and I decided it was time to pack up and head home. I realized I hadn’t taken any pictures of Lexie & Jackson and we decided it was b/c anytime she was holding him, she was nursing. So, we got a picture of the 2 of them. He looks unhappy in this picture but he’s really not. He loves his Mama.
I am SO HAPPY that Autumn & I got to visit for the weekend. In all the time that Lexie & Jon have lived in Austin, I have never been to visit them. I told Lexie all it took was her having a baby! LOL! It was great spending time with family and creating fun memories. Autumn & I stopped on the way out of town and got gas & then went and got a concrete chocolate chip cookie dough from Shake’s (since I had already broken the Sabbath by buying gas I figured why not).
Autumn watched Annie on the portable DVD player the whole ride home and then fell asleep for the last bit of the trip. I was going to stop in Italy, TX to take some pictures but since she was asleep I didn’t want to wake her up. Once we reached Dallas, she woke up screaming b/c her leg had fallen asleep and then it was a non-stop cry fest until we got home. Poor kid is going to have a hoarse throat tomorrow. We called Dad and told him to come over and get some food Mom had sent home with us. He ate some dinner (and shared some with Autumn) and we watched a little football. He went home at 9:00 b/c he has to teach early morning seminary tomorrow. Autumn & I were so tired from the weekend that we both went to sleep at 9:30.
