Autumn Got To Hold Another Rare Book

IMG_6535 We sang this hymn in sacrament meeting, and the 2nd verse really struck me today. I have been praying hard lately to know how to do better in my calling and really help the Young Women in my ward. This was a direct answer to that prayer. Autumn & I left at 3:00 to go to Nick’s ward (congregation) to hear him give a talk on obedience. He did a good job and I’m glad that Autumn, Nate, Riannon, Olivia & I could all be there to encourage and support him.

I had to leave to be back to my ward by 4:00 for a few meetings, so Nate & Riannon took Autumn home with them. We had BYC (Bishop’s Youth Council) and then I took the 3 class presidents home. I rushed over to Nate & Riannon’s, scarfed down a few rouladen that Nate had made, and then Autumn & I hurried home for our home teachers to come at 6:00.

IMG_6536 We pulled up to the house right as they were knocking on the front door. One of our home teachers collects valuable antique books, and he brought a very special one to show Autumn. This is the Book of Mormon that belonged to Hyrum Smith, the prophet Joseph’s brother. This was just recently discovered, and is incredibly valuable. He said the Smith family was letting him borrow it for a month to have it restored since the binding was about to break.

IMG_6539There is a scripture in Doctrine & Covenants 135:4 that reads, “When Joseph went to Carthage to deliver himself up to the pretended requirements of the law, two or three days previous to his assassination, he said: “I am going like a lamb to the slaughter; but I am calm as a summer’s morning; I have a conscience void of offense towards God, and towards all men. I shall die innocent, and it shall yet be said of me—he was murdered in cold blood.”—The same morning, after Hyrum had made ready to go—shall it be said to the slaughter? yes, for so it was—he read the following paragraph, near the close of the twelfth chapter of Ether, in the Book of Mormon, and turned down the leaf upon it.

This is the exact page it references in the above scripture! Autumn was able to see it and touch it. Just the same as the rare & special books she got to touch back in January, this doesn’t make the church any more true, and it doesn’t change our testimonies of the truthfulness of the Gospel at all. But, it’s a neat thing to see and touch something that is a part of church history.

After they left we had some crock pot fajitas I had made and then we watched Once Upon A Time and called it a night!
