Around 9:20 today I was sitting at work and all of a sudden heard a loud boom and then the power went out. We all went outside to see what had made that noise, and the people in the buildings next to us came outside, too. Come to find out, it was this big nasty bird that ran into one of the wires and blew out the electricity for the whole block! So, we called the electric company and they sent someone out to look at what happened and luckily the power was back on within 20 minutes.
After work, we went over to Mom & Dad’s house to have dinner and then it was time for Autumn’s last swim lessons. On their last day of class, they are supposed to wear clothes when they swim so that they know what it’s like. Most of the time, when kids accidentally fall into the pool, it’s in their clothes and she wants them to know how hard it is to swim in heavy clothes. She doesn’t want them to panic and remember all they have learned and swim to the side and be safe. Autumn was loving it and the clothes didn’t bother her at all.
As you can see, she jumped in w/ reckless abandon. It was funny when she tried to swim to the side, b/c she’d have a big huge air bubble in the back of her shirt.
After a while she had them remove their clothes and then they spent some time learning safety techniques. Life if someone is drowning, you lay down on the side and offer your hand. If you are kneeling or standing and try to help them, they will pull you in and then you’re both in trouble. Autumn learned the hard way last year when she got pulled in, so she did much better this year.
If the person is too far away to reach them w/ your hand by laying on the side then you get the pool broom or a long stick and extend it out to them, tell them to grab on, and pull them in.
The last thing they learned was if you have a flotation ring, you stand on the rope and then toss the ring out past the person and then tell them to grab on as you pull it past them. Autumn ended up actually throwing it right on top of Mr. Steve’s head. LOL!
We had to get our usual pic w/ Ms. Cis in front of her flotation ring.
Here’s Autumn class for this year. It was all girls, and they all did great. Every year this picture turns out weird b/c I think the camera is trying to compensate for how far back the background is. That’s why it has a funky looking edit to the picture, but oh well. At least we have a picture. I am SO GLAD that we get to take lessons from Ms. Cis and we will continue to keep taking from her.
