Even though I didn’t go to bed until after midnight last night, my body still woke up right at 7:00 am CDT right on the dot, which means 6:00 am here. I tried going back to sleep but couldn’t so I got up and blogged until Autumn woke up. We had some cereal for breakfast and then got ready for the day. Aunt Jill let us borrow a car and I took Autumn over to Jason & Nicole’s around 9:00. I wasn’t sure how Autumn was going to act, b/c we’ve talked a lot about this day and I didn’t know if she would be shy or nervous or just normal. I was glad that when we walked in, she went over and gave Jason a hug and wasn’t shy at all. We all sat and talked for a little bit and then Jason and got Khloe and she is SO CUTE! I couldn’t stay long b/c I had to get back to take Rufio to get her car looked at. I worried that Autumn might be clingy when it came time for me to leave, but my fears were alleviated when she gave me a hug, waved goodbye, and went off to play w/ Khloe. I am so excited for her and hope she has a wonderful time and creates some great memories.
I made it back just in time to park Aunt Jill’s car and jump in Rufio’s car. A few weeks ago, she was driving along and some guy backed out of his driveway in his big truck and didn’t see her and ended up ripping off her back bumper. So, we had to go to his insurance place so they could look at the car and determine if they would pay to repair it or just total it. We were there for about an hour, b/c the guy crunching the numbers said it was such a close call. Rufio’s car is older and he said it would be around $3,500 to repair the damages and he needed to pull some more numbers to see if that was worth doing or if it would just have to be totaled. He said he would work on it throughout the day between his other appointments and that he would get back with us.
I really wanted to go up to BYU and walk around the campus and take pictures of my old stomping grounds. But, Rufio doesn’t do well w/ lots of walking so we just drove around the campus and then went to the Wilkinson Center. I got a chicken shawarma pita which was OK, but nothing like Kebapci’s.
The real reason I wanted to eat at the Wilkinson Center was to get one of BYU’s famous mint brownies. They were SO GOOD and worth every single calorie. After Rufio & I finished eating, we checked out the bookstore and I got a BYU alumni license plate cover that was marked 1/2 off.
We went down to the basement of the Wilkinson Center, b/c Rufio said that Grandpa Jay used to work in the barber shop. I had to get a picture of Rufio in front of the sign.
She said his spot was always chair #2 and that he was the one that created a numbering system similar to this one. I love that you can also see the barber shop poles in the background.
After all that walking around, she was done so I went and got the car and came and picked her up. It was SO GREAT to be back at BYU and remember all the incredible experiences I had while living and going to school there. Rufio wanted me to see how the grounds in front of the Provo temple had changed, so we drove up around there. There was so much traffic and we couldn’t figure out why until we drove past the MTC and realized it was Wednesday and all the new missionaries were being dropped off. That made me super nostalgic, too.
We came home to relax and get out of the heat, although this dry Utah heat is so much more bearable than humid Texas heat. I blogged for a while and she took a little nap. I texted Jason to see how Autumn was doing and he said she was doing great and having a blast. He texted me this pic, which made me so happy. He said they were going to go pick up the other kids at the airport tonight and Autumn was getting so excited to see them.
The car insurance guy called in the late afternoon and said he had the final numbers to go over w/ her. So, we got in the car and drove back up there to see what he had to say. Basically, the car is totaled just b/c he had to factor in them paying for a rental while her car got fixed and that pushed it over the price point. So, Rufio is going to think about it and talk it over w/ Rick & Jill and will probably just take the money they would have used to fix the car and go get her car fixed somewhere else. We weren’t super hungry b/c it was only 4:30, but I wanted to eat at Rumbi Grill and we figured we could go there before the dinner crowds hit. It was SO GOOD and I especially love their sweet potato fries. I was sad they no longer have the virgin pina colada drinks, but we still enjoyed our meal and even had enough left over to bring home for later.
We went into Rick & Jill’s so Rufio could talk to them about her car. I got the password for their internet and uploaded my blog posts and checked emails and Facebook. I had texted Monique earlier in the day to see if she could dinner tonight or Friday night and she called me at 6:30 when she got off work. We met up at Bamboo Hut to get some Polynesian food (that guava cake in my hand is SOOOO GOOD) and sat and talked for over 2 hours. They finally had to kick us out at 9:00 when the closed. We stood outside for another hour just talking and laughing and catching up on each other’s lives. We both love Polynesian boys, so it’s fun to talk to her about that. I just love her and am so glad we’ve kept in touch and stayed friends all these years.
We finally said good bye around 10:00 b/c I had to run to WalMart to get the stuff to make pasta salad for our Hatch family party tomorrow. I was also THRILLED to find my favorite pair of shoes (they are like knock off Mary Jane Cros) at this WalMart. I bought these shoes at the beginning of the summer and ever since have tried finding another pair in my size so I’ll have another pair once this pair are worn out b/c I wear them every single day. My WalMart at home had none every time I looked (which was every time I went to the store), but this WalMart had ONE pair and it was my size! I may or may not have done a little happy jig right there in the shoe aisle. I came home and it was already 10:30 by this time. I went in Rufio’s apartment to put away the groceries that needed to be refrigerated and then uploaded and edited pictures and called it a night at 11:30. It is so nice to have the peach bed all to myself so I can stretch out and enjoy it.
