Hospital Emotions

My best friend, Tara, had to go in for surgery today. She's been having problems with her toes and circulation, so they went in and put a stint behind her left knee to help with the circulation. So, Autumn and I went down to visit her and Michael and Deb (Tara's mom). As you can see, Tara was feeling OK and even trying to make us laugh and have fun.

I was so glad Tara's mom was able to be there with her. I know Michael is wonderful and a good husband (he kept getting a wash cloth wet to cool her forehead), but there's just something about having your mom there when you're sick or not feeling well.

I am so glad that Tara will be OK. She is my best friend in the whole entire world. We've been there for each other through all the major things that have gone on in each other's lives since we've known each other. I'm just glad I'm back and living in Texas so we can be close again.

When I first got to the hospital and we were walking past the nurses' desk to go to Tara's room, I almost lost it and almost started bawling. Then being in her room and seein the IV and stuff almost made me lose it again. There are 2 reasons: 1. It's hard to see someone you love in pain and know there is really nothing you can do to help. 2. It made me think of when I had gall bladder surgery and when I had Autumn and how Jason was there for me and how good things were at the time. Sharing something as special and sacred as having a child together is a very emotional thing. It was so cute to see Michael taking such good care of Tara and really showing his love for her by feeding her, helping her to the bathroom, etc. I made me remember how sweet it was to wake up from gall bladder surgery and have Jason there. I made me remember how life-changing it was to have a baby and have my mom and the person I loved most in the world (Jason) there with me to share in that miraculous experience. And that made me cry.

It got me to thinking about the emotions that come with being in a hospital. It's either something good (like having a baby or having a surgery go well) or it's something horrible and life-threatening that someone we love is hurt or sick or dying. Luckily this was a trip that was something good. Hopefully I won't have to go to the hospital anytime soon for something bad!

Good God, I do look horrible! MMMMM, MMMMM, MMMMM!

But, seriously, Lisa, I can't thank you enough for the best friend a person could ever have. I know that I always can count on you, and that knowledge truly means the world to me. I love you so much! You helped brighten up a time when I was feeling so terrible. Thank you for your hugs, your sweet listening ear, your radiant smile, your contagious laugh, and your sincere and true friendship. You are the sister that I never had! Michael and my Momma appreciated you being there, as well. I hope I can return the favor someday, and please know I'll be there for you no matter what, Foof!
