I got a jury summons a few weeks ago. I went on Monday morning, and wouldn't you know my luck...I got picked. It was an indecent exposure case. After they selected the jury, we went right into the case and heard opening statements. I thought it was going to be pretty fast and that we would finish Monday. However, we didn't. We had to come back the next day and didn't leave until 5 pm. It was basically a case of he said/she said. This girl claimed the defendant shut her in a storage unit at the place she worked and that he dropped his pants and showed her his *****. Both of their stories were kind of shady and full of lies. But, we ended up deciding that he was guilty as charged. The funny part to me was that the guy's name was Mr. Ball!!!
There were 6 of us on the jury, and on the second day, 2 of the ladies and I went to lunch at The Pantry. I LOVE their desserts. This chocolate chip and pecan pie was so yummy. The whole experience of being on a jury was very interesting. I am glad I was with a good group of people, we all got along, and we came to a decision very fast. We were all very punctual, and even the bailiff was impressed that we were ALWAYS 10 min early back from lunch or breaks. It was good to be a part of the legal system. The only thing I didn't like was that the lawyers argued a lot and we had to be taken out of the room so that they could argue w/ out us hearing. But, it was GREAT in a way, b/c I was able to read a LOT of the new Stephenie Myers book, Breaking Dawn. It was a good learning experience to be on jury duty, but not something that I want to do again anytime soon.

I was summoned for jury awhile back but was excused luckily.
...and I got Breaking Dawn this weekend. YEAH!
LOL!! That's hilarious about his name, and his charge. I think I would have had a hard time holding it together. Glad that it was a somewhat fast case and didn't drag on for weeks. :D
HAHA Mr. Ball (That is Jen's last name now and we tease her husband about it often) I am so glad I haven't had to go do jury duty.
Way to go on performing your civic duty! I am not surprised you got picked at all, I think you would be a great juror. Kudos on making sure justice was served! And that is really funny that his name is Mr. Ball -- HA!
ps: did you get that 'I belong' pic off my blog? If so, I got mine from leeloublogs.com...if you find it there, the site shows you how to make it a button so that if anyone clicks on it, it goes to mormon.org. Great missionary opp!
