Today was a great Mother’s Day. I woke up this morning to Autumn standing by my bed patting my face. She gave me the biggest smile when I opened my eyes. She then climbed into bed w/ me and was giving me kisses. It was the sweetest thing ever. After 10 minutes of just playing and laughing I finally got up and we woke up Nick and then went over and made breakfast for Mom. Nothing too fancy, just pancakes and eggs and bacon. We also cleaned up all the dishes in the kitchen for her and gave her a card.
We came home and I got Autumn bathed and ready for church. She took a little nap, which is good since we now have church at 1:00 instead of 11:00 and I didn’t want her to be Miss Grouchy Pants. I got ready for church while she slept. It’s a tradition that every year Dad gives Mom an orchid corsage for Mother’s Day. I went to get some milk out of the fridge and guess what I found on one of the shelves? An orchid corsage for me!!! That was the sweetest thing and made me feel so special.
Autumn was really good at church and it was so great to see quite a few familiar faces from before the ward split. We sat by the Decker’s and I just love them SOOO much. The talks were great and the little primary kids got up and sang a Mother’s Day song and I almost started crying. I’m going to be such a cry baby when Autumn is old enough to get up there and sing to me.
After church we came home and Autumn went down for a nap. I laid on the couch and watched a movie and fell asleep for a little while b/c I was so tired. Nick got home from church and we watched Shrek and then I made dinner and we had chicken, rice, spinach, and some asparagus straight from the garden. After we cleaned that up we watched Shrek 2 and then went to bed.
I can’t even begin to explain how thankful I am for the mothers I am surrounded by. I am so thankful for my Grandma Johnson and Grandma Ruth and the amazing job they did at raising my parents. Words don’t even come close to describing how much I love my own mother and how eternally grateful I am that she is my Mom. I am also thankful for my friends who are such good examples to me of how to be great mothers. I think Mindi, Jason’s first ex-wife, is a saint. She is raising 4 little children on her own and doing a fantastic job. I was able to call and talk to Jason’s mom and it was so good to talk to her. I wish Autumn and I could see her more often.
Anyways, I hope all of you mothers out there had a great mother’s day, b/c we truly are amazing and have the power to change the world from the simple things we do. You inspire me to be better!
