Today for lunch, we veered from our usual Wednesday lunch (El Fenix) and went to a little hole in the wall that one of the sales reps knew about that was close to our office. It really was a hole in the wall that I would have never noticed or gone in. My third favorite thing (I’m starting at the bottom and working my way up to most favorite). There was this huge island mural scene on the wall, which got major brownie points in my book right off the bat.
My second favorite thing was the food, which was out of this world good. For just $5.99 I got a drink, this Greek salad and the most delectable gyro I’ve ever had. I was thrilled to see in the kitchen in the back that they had the lamb meat on a vertical spinning rack just like at Kebapci (one of my favorite foods of all time in Slovenija). The meat was so tender and just melted in my mouth, the tziki sauce was super flavorful, there was this yummy spicy sauce on it and the bread on the outside was incredibly soft. I was in 7th heaven and savored every single bite.
My very favorite part, however, was the owner. As soon as we walked in the door, I knew I was going to like him. He was loud and boisterous and hilarious! He told us not to pay for the food until after we had eaten. A few people came in while we were eating and he welcomed them by name and asked if they wanted “the usual.” He came over after we had eaten and brought us a big bowl of grapes just b/c he wanted to. He asked if we liked the food and said that if we didn’t then we didn’t have to pay until he got us what we wanted. I asked him if I could get a picture w/ him and he said I could, but I was lucky he was letting me, b/c he was famous. I asked what he meant and he showed me a few pictures on the wall where he was standing w/ Steve Nash and a few other famous people. Then he proceeded to turn on a TV in the restaurant and showed us where he had been featured on the news. He said he had also been on a few other shows. He just radiated happiness and exuberance and life. I will DEFINITELY be going back there (a lot).
I got Autumn from daycare, went to swim lessons, and then we came home to a HUGE meal prepared by Mom & Aunt Tafta & Lexie. We had salad w/ Grandma Taft dressing, spaghetti, garlic bread, and a fresh fruit salad. Then, for dessert we had this super good trifle. It’s just alternating layers of angel food cake torn into bite-sized pieces, vanilla pudding, all sorts of fresh berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries) and whip cream. It was super sweet and tasty, and it looks really fancy.
The girls spent the rest of the evening watching The Next Food Network Star while the kids went out and swam w/ Dad & Uncle Kerry. Then us girls had a show & tell of what Mom & Lexie & Aunt Tafta bought at Sam Moons today. I LOVE show & tells, b/c I get so excited at all the pretty jewelry. I was super lucky, b/c they brought me back something.
Lexie picked it out for me and I absolutely LOVE it! It just screams my name. Aunt Tafta & Uncle Kerry & Dad & Andrew came over so Tafta & Kerry could see our house. I am so glad they are here visiting and just wish I could spend more time during the day w/ them.
