Movie Madness

Last night I left at 11:00 to get to the theater by 11:15 so I didn’t end up with a crappy seat for the movie. I got to the theater and there was a little bit of a line, but not bad. I got in line and asked two teenage girls in front of me if this was the line for Eat, Pray, Love & they said yes. So, I stood there just people watching. I noticed that there were a lot of weird and dorky and loud and obnoxious boys in the line and thought it was kind of strange that they would all be there to see a chick flick. After a few minutes, a theater worker walked by so I asked her if the line I was in was for Eat, Pray, Love. She said no, it was for some new boy type movie.

I told the girls in front of me and we all laughed and said that explained and lot and then we walked up to the ticket taker and handed her our tickets and rushed to the theater to see if there were any good seats left. I was worried it had already been seated for a while and I’d get stuck on the front row where you are looking straight up the whole time. I walked into the theater and there was NO ONE in there…not one single soul! LOL!

So, I got to sit wherever I wanted. For a long time it was just me and those two teenage girls (who sat a few rows in front of me). When it was all said and done, there were only 13 women in the theater for the movie! So much for rushing to get there for fear of it being sold out. Anyways there were some previews for some GREAT looking movies coming up. I posted the links below and when they come out and a little bit about them (info all from imdb.com). I highly recommend clicking on the title of the movies and then watching that trailers for the movies. I am super excited to go see all of them.

  1. Flipped (Aug 27)
    1. Two eighth graders start to have feelings for each other despite being total opposites. Based on the novel "Flipped" by Wendelin Van Draanen. Set in the 50’s or 60’s. It looks really cute and is directed by Rob Reiner.
  2. You Again (Sept 24)
    1. When a young woman realizes her brother is about to marry the girl who bullied her in high school, she sets out to expose the fiancée's true colors. Starring Kristen Bell, Sigourney Weaver, Jamie Lee Curtis, Kristin Chenoweth, & Betty White.
    1. Two single adults become caregivers to an orphaned girl when their mutual best friends die in an accident. Starring Katherine Heigl & Josh Duhamel.
    1. A romantic comedy centered on the love triangle between professional softball player Lisa Jorgenson, a corporate executive, and a major-league pitcher. Starring Reese Witherspoon, Paul Rudd, Owen Wilson, & Jack Nicholson

I don’t know if I just didn’t like the writer’s style of writing or what. So, I never read the book and hoped the movie wouldn’t be as big of a disappointment. I think the reason I loved it so much is b/c I could relate to Julia Robert’s character since she had gone through a divorce and was looking to find herself again. The part where she is in Italy almost made me cry b/c it reminded me of Slovenija and I can hardly wait to go there in October and rediscover myself.

The cinematography was breathtaking, the acting was wonderful, and the story is touching. I was very impressed that during a part where they could have added a sex scene to the movie they kept it very clean. The only complaint or criticism I have is that sometimes it was hard to understand the actors with thick accents. I found myself a few times thinking to myself, “What did he just say?” It was FOR SURE worth staying out until 3:00 am for. I loved it and want to see it again very soon (maybe next week when Mom gets home I’ll take her to go see it).

IMG_7212 This is what the box looks like and it was only $4 at WalMart and it’s definitely worth the money. I like the thick focaccia crust. On the way home from work, I had stopped and got 3 movies from the Red Box. The first one we watched was Penelope, which is about a girl that’s born w/ a pig nose and how she learns to let others love her and love herself. It was a quirky and cute movie, kind of like the movie Matilda or Nanny McPhee.

IMG_7213 After we watched that movie (Autumn really wasn’t into it and spent most of the movie in her room playing) she wanted to watch Shrek, so we put that one one. She crawled into the brown recliner and just sprawled out like she owned the joint. I followed her example and sprawled out on the love seat and took a little nap since I didn’t go to bed until 3:00 am.

IMG_7221 After Shrek was over, we made some virgin pina coladas and even busted out our fancy glasses. The ice had been in the freezer too long and so they didn’t taste as good as they could have, but we enjoyed them anyways. We were all talking when all of a sudden out of nowhere Autumn said, “it’s on my blog.” I stopped what I was saying to Nick mid-sentence and asked Autumn what she had said. She said again, “it’s on my blog.” Nick and I looked at each other and just started laughing hysterically. I guess I say that phrase a lot without even noticing it, b/c where else would she have heard that phrase? I was completely caught off guard and thought it was hilarious. We were all laughing so hard and I had to get a picture of her laughing at how clever she was. There is no better way to spend a Friday night!

I got her to bed at 9:00 and then watched another of the movies I rented. It was called Our Family Wedding and stars Carlos Mencia, America Ferrera, and Forest Whitaker. It was a really cute movie and I would buy it if it were in the $5 bin at WalMart. The best part was that it had Anjelah Johnson, the girl that does the “One Nail” skit, in it. I finished off my fabulous Friday night by watching Whose Line Is It Anyway?
