It was nice to wake up this morning and just relax and sleep in and watch cartoons. I made some breakfast burritos and then we got ready for the day and headed out at 11:00. We took my car to get the state inspection done, and while we waited, we walked down to Sonic and got a hotdog meal w/ tater tots and a cherry limeade to drink.
They had it all decorated up for Halloween. Autumn wasn’t too sure what to think about this skeleton in the flower pot. I told her to go stand by it, but this was as close as she would get.
We walked back to the car shop, but our car wasn’t done yet (you can see the nose of it sticking out of the building in this picture), so we sat outside and enjoyed the gorgeous weather. Autumn might be a tight rope walker when she grows up, b/c she was really good at balancing on this lip of cement.
After our car was done, we headed over to the park. It was seriously perfect weather w/ a nice light breeze. We had fun chasing each other around the playground. Then I sat and watched Autumn while she ran around w/ some other kids. She has grown up so much, b/c I remember when I would bring her to the park and she couldn’t even go down the slides by herself. Now she maneuvers around like no body’s business.
After running around for a while, she was getting sweaty and saw some kids that had just finished their soccer game playing in the water, so she decided to be brave and go over near the water. She’s always very cautious at first and it takes her a good 20-30 minutes to venture into the water.
But, she finally did and was so excited to run back to me and show me that she got wet. Since it was windy, she got cold fast and kept trying to snuggle up next to me and said, “Keep me warm, Mama.” We were both laughing like crazy b/c I was trying to keep her off me of me so I didn’t get wet but she wanted to get water on me. She’s such a cute little bug.
We stopped at the store on the way home to get a few bags of Halloween candy for the trunk-or-treat tonight. Then we came home and rested for a little bit and next thing I knew it, it was time to get ready for the party. I just wore a Halloween scrub top w/ some skeleton earrings, b/c I’m not a big Halloween fan. But, I knew my girl wanted to be the princess of the ball, so we dressed her to the hilt.
I put her hair in curlers so she had a fancy up do and I put on lipstick, eye shadow, blush, and mascara. We added a special touch tonight that she didn’t have last night…some fancy dangling earrings. I ADORE her expression in this picture b/c she’s so impressed w/ how she looks.
This one makes me smile, too. She just could not stop looking at herself in the mirror.
“Mirror, mirror on the wall. Who’s the fairest of them all?”
Such a pampered & pretty princess.
We got over to the church & they had doughnuts & juice for everyone to enjoy before the trunk-or-treat started. Autumn loved eating her doughnut and seeing all the other kids dressed up. There were at least 6 other girls there tonight that were dressed up as Snow White. Autumn kept saying, “Look, Mama! It’s a Snow White like me!”
I am a HUGE fan of trunk-or-treats, b/c Autumn got a TON of candy, we didn’t have to walk far, and there were no people in scary masks. It’s safe, the kids have a great time, and we were done by 6:00!
I gave my candy to one of my visiting teachers to hand out for me b/c I couldn’t sit near my trunk and hand it out since I had to walk around w/ Autumn. After we went around to all the cars, we went and sat at the picnic benches to wait for everyone else to finish before trying to move our car. She wanted me to get a picture of her pretty red nails and spider ring. I think I said at least 400 times tonight, “say trick-or-treat and tell them thank you.”
There was one trunk that was all decked out and had smoke coming out of a cauldron and a guy dressed like a grim reaper. Autumn did NOT like that car and wouldn’t go near it and talked about it the WHOLE WAY HOME! She could not get that car off of her mind. I kept telling her that the smoky car went home but that didn’t appease her and she kept saying she didn’t want to see the smoky car.
After the party, we went to Mom & Dad’s to let Emma out to go potty. They left at noon to go to the Ranger’s World Series game. They spent WAY too much on tickets, especially since they were up in the nose bleed section, but I am so happy they got to go and say that they’ve been to a World Series Game. Autumn wanted to show Uncle Curt her costume, but he wasn’t home when we called over there b/c he was at hockey. But, Mary said her & Jake needed a ride down to the Jones’ house where their ward was having their Halloween party. So, we picked them up and took them over. Autumn wanted to walk around and even got a little bit more candy. The Jones’ always put on a GREAT party and have things looking so nice. I loved this little fall display they had set up. I tried to get Autumn to put down the cotton candy, but she refused (that’s that weird blue glob in her hand).
I tried to get a cute picture near this other fall scene they had set up, but she was insistent on eating her cotton candy. Oh, well…can’t win ‘em all.
Autumn wanted to go see the horses in the barn and then they had a Halloween movie playing on a big screen set up in the barn. They had these bales of hale set up for the kids to sit on. So fun!
We had to get a picture of Autumn & Autumn together. The two pretty princesses. My Autumn wasn’t wearing shoes b/c it was a long walk back to our car & her shoes kept falling off so I was just carrying her. After all the fun & excitement of two parties, we came home and cooked a pizza for dinner and watched the Rangers win their first World Series game. Then we watched Hocus Pocus & she fell asleep halfway through b/c she was so wiped out and didn’t get a nap today. I used to be so scared of Hocus Pocus when I was younger.
It was quite a day and I’m glad Autumn had such a good time. It was fun to celebrate Halloween w/ her this year b/c she actually understands it and what’s going on. I hope she can always have great memories of celebrating holidays. I know Mom & Dad always made things fun & nice for us as kids. I will never forget how Dad rigged a speaker in a scarecrow out on our porch when we were younger, which was so cool back then. Kids would come to knock on the door and he would say something like, “You’re the bravest Ninja Turtle I ever saw.” Kids would look around like, “Where the heck did that come from?” Then sometimes he would just yell and scare the crap out of them b/c they didn’t expect any noise to come from a scarecrow. It was awesome.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
