Since we had 2 left over tickets, I called Liz & Liberty to see if they could/wanted to go with us. They said for sure, so we stopped by and picked them up and hit the road. We got a little lost once we got into downtown Dallas, but it was fine b/c we were early. Our seats were awesome and were just 6 rows up from the ice and off to the right of one of the goals. Liz & Lib went down to the glass to get a picture while the players were warming up.
Britt Berrett is THE MAN and is the one that got us the tickets. He had bought them for his family, but then a friend of his had 6 tickets he couldn’t use so he gave them to us! It was fun to see him and his family just a few sections over from where we were. We all kept looking at them and waving during the game.
THANK YOU, BRITT FOR THE TICKETS!!!
Here’s our motley crew. We were so excited to be at the game, especially Liz since she’s never been to a professional hockey game before. Every time someone would get thrown into the glass, she would jump. It was fun to sit next to her.
Our seats were right next to this opening that leads to an area under the seats and Nick was loving it b/c that is where the Zamboni ice machines would come in and out of. He kept giving the guys driving the machines a thumbs up sign when they would go past. Plus, all the guys that were in charge of putting the nets up and down while they re-iced the rink were standing down there and he could watch them and see what they were doing.
We were so close and it was fun to see the players so near to us.
In between the periods, they had these kids from School of Rock perform and I did NOT like it at all. They were very talented, but it’s not my type of music and just sounded like loud noise w/ screaming instead of singing. I couldn’t understand anything they were saying. This girl reminded Liz and I of the girl on The Middle. All she was missing was the yellow sweatshirt from being on the track team. Definitely not my cup of tea.
There were a couple of really good fights, which is the real reason anyone wants to go to a hockey game anyway. I love that this ref just stood there and watched them throw punches for about 30 seconds before he decided to step in and break up the fight. It was a good game and we ended up winning the game… 3 to 2. Because we scored 3 goals, they handed out coupons for free Chili’s chips & salsa. WOOT WOOT!
Because we were right there by where they film the Channel 8 news, we decided to stop by and see what was going on since it was 10:00. Liz stood right near the front and got to be on the news for just a second when they panned the group outside before they showed the sports section of the news.
Liz was GIDDY with excitement, especially when Gloria Campos waved to all of us outside and Liz & I were doing the “princess parade float wave” and she did it back. At the very end of the news broadcast, the camera guy came back out and panned the group outside again (there were only about 15 of us this time) and Nick was right at the end of the line and got to be on for about 7 seconds and we were so excited for him.
It was worth waiting for and I’m glad we got to experience it. We headed home and got home late, which is crazy since I was up until 2 am last night and had a fun and full packed day today. But I wouldn’t have it any other way and it was an awesome day. I’m so glad Liz & Liberty were able to come with us. I was out like a light as soon as my head hit the pillow.
