Today at work I got some crappy & then really upsetting news. The crappy news was that a shipment of products that we needed TODAY was not going to be delivered until tomorrow b/c the lady that ships our products from our warehouse messed up (for the 6th time) and sent them to the wrong place. Just when I think I get things all straightened out w/ her and our shipments, she messes them up again. I am so fed up w/ her and the whole situation and don’t understand why she keeps making these big mistakes, b/c she’s not new to this job. UGH!
Then, the upsetting news came when yy cell phone rang around 3:00 and it was the rental car company calling to make sure that I knew that my rental car had to be back today by 6:00. WHAT!?!?! I had no idea, b/c no one had told me, so I called AllState (the insurance of the girl that hit me and was paying for my rental car) and asked them why the rental car had to be returned today and why no one had told me. Well, come to find out there’s a rule that once I get an offer for my totaled car (which I got from my insurance on Friday but told them I would like to think about it over the weekend), I have 24 hours to return the rental. That’s the law in most states. I was freaking out, b/c how in the world is someone supposed to find a car in 24 hours, and how was I supposed to return my car in 3 hours w/ no notice? Especially when I haven’t even accepted the offer or gotten the check from my insurance for my totaled car?
I was so upset and stressed out about it, even though I know that Mom & Dad would let me borrow a car if I needed to. I don’t know what “normal” people do that don’t have an incredible Mom & Dad like I do, or that don’t have family close by that can help them out.
Mom called about 4:00 and said they were going to go pick up Autumn from daycare and go to McDonald’s and to just meet them there when I got off work. I was in such an ornery mood and just vented to Mom & Lexie about my work & the car situation. Not to mention, there were about 25 flies in the play area that kept trying to land on our food. I wished I had a fly swatter b/c it was so gross!
I tried not to let my frustrated mood affect everyone, but we were all in an ornery mood anyways, especially Mom b/c she had major jet lag and sleep deprivation. While we were sitting and talking, Autumn stuck all her fingers in the ketchup cup. We were all about to freak out and yell at her for making a mess when we just started laughing uncontrollably instead. It was like on Steel Magnolias at the funeral where Clairee tells M’Lynn to hit Ouiser and says, “we just needed to laugh!” I took Autumn in the bathroom to wash off her hands and asked her why she stuck her fingers in the ketchup cup and she said b/c there was a little tiny fry at the bottom of the ketchup that she was trying to get.
Anyways, the kids ran off to play and we sat and talked w/ Mom about her trip. There were a lot of kids playing b/c it was dinner time, and we noticed there was one bigger kid that was a little bit heavy set that kept being mean to some of the kids. Lexie noticed that this kid had Autumn & Andrew cornered and she waddled over there and scolded the bully and told him to leave Autumn & Andrew alone. Mom & I were laughing and asked Lexie what the kid did. She said his eyes got really big and he was shocked and just nodded and ran off to play.
We kept a closer eye on the kids and made sure that bully didn’t go near them. Lexie & Mom & I were talking some more when all of a sudden Mom got up and went over to the play area and I knew what was coming. She sternly and loudly said to the bully that she saw what he was doing and she didn’t appreciate it and he better knock it off. She asked him if she should go get the manager and he didn’t answer, so she stormed off to get a manager. You could have heard a pin drop in the play area after she left and all of the kids slowly filed out of the playground w/ eyes as big as saucers. Moms & Dads started telling their kids to put on their shoes and that it was time to go.
The bully came out and was crying. He went over to his parents and Mom came back. She walked over to his parents and told them that she didn’t know he was their child or else she would have talked to them first, but now a manager was going to get involved. The bully’s Mom asked if he had punched anyone and Mom told her no, but that he was being mean and cornering kids and we had already talked to him about it once but he didn’t listen and that his behavior was unacceptable.
The manager came over and Mom said she had handled the situation with his parents and that the bully was leaving. I hate any type of conflict, so my cheeks were bright red and I was embarrassed, but also proud at the same time. I’m glad Mom let that kid know he can’t treat people like that and that she put him in his place. But, I also felt bad that she had scared the other kids that weren’t doing anything wrong in the process. Once she came and sat down and cooled down a little bit, there were some Moms that were leaving and we apologized that they felt like they had to leave, but they said they have a Mom like our Mom and that it was time for them to go anyways and they would have done the same thing if that bully had been picking on their kids.
It was a crazy couple of minutes and once the stress and high emotions had calmed down, we were able to laugh about it and told Mom we’re never going to let her live down the day that she cleared out the McDonald’s playground. We were sitting and talking when all of a sudden we heard a man yelling “Shoot! Shoot! Shoot!”, but it sounded like he was saying a naughty word instead. We started laughing so hard when we realized he had an accent and was yelling “shoot” at one of the computer games they have on a screen at the tables.
It was the most eventful time I’ve ever spent at McDonald’s, and probably the longest, too. We were there for about 3 hours b/c the kids were having so much fun playing and we were having fun just sitting and talking in between all the craziness and drama.
We finally left around 8:00 to head home b/c Dad called and said he was home from work and wanted to see the grandkids. Autumn had a mini meltdown in the parking lot b/c she wanted to ride in the Cadillac w/ Drew but I told her she couldn’t b/c there wasn’t a car seat in there for her. I should have just taken her home b/c I knew she was tired, but she wanted to see her Papa. She was upset when we got there b/c she said that she had an owie on her face and needed a band-aid. It was a little tiny scratch that you could barely see, but Mimi was so nice and appeased her and put a band aid on the owie for her. This bright yellow band aid isn’t noticeable at all. LOL!
We only stayed for about 15 minutes and then I took her home and put her right to bed b/c she was so tired. Nick stayed w/ her so I could go watch The Bachelorette at Christine’s. Christine’s son, Steele, found this parrot outside of Chipotle one day and brought it home and has been taking care of it. Karri loves birds and charmed the parrot right away.
I said I wanted to hold the parrot, and did fine until it started climbing up my arm. It’s claws hurt and then it started rooting around in my hair b/c it’s big and soft. I was worried it was going to try and bite my ear so I told Steele to come and save me.
I wasn’t really into this episode and we were talking most of the time and didn’t even pay attention. We also worked on these paper flowers for the big youth jubilee coming up. We paused the show to hear Christine give us an update on what’s going on in her love life and we’re all thrilled beyond belief for her. I was starting to fade fast b/c it was already midnight and I didn’t care who got sent home this week, but they talked me into staying and we finished up the show.
I was famished and decided to stop at Taco Bell to get a few tacos. It made me miss Tara SO MUCH b/c we used to do late Taco Bell runs all the time in college and then go sit and eat and talk at a park. Well, I made my order and pulled up to pay and realized I had left my debit card at home b/c the strap on my purse broke and I and I had switched purses. Luckily I found a VISA gift card I had and used that, but was 15 cents short! The guy asked me if I had any change in my car and I told him it was a rental so I had no change and none in my purse either b/c I had just switched purses. I told him to just take on of the 99 cent tacos off my order and he said not to worry about it.
I came home and Nick & I ate our Taco Bell while he told me what happened on the season finale of Camelot. I can’t believe that they killed off Queen Igraine, Leontes, and The Nun! Not to mention that Merlin is leaving, although I’m pretty sure they’ll bring him back. I didn’t get to bed until 1:30 am and am going to be regretting that when my alarm goes off in 6 hours.
