This morning when we got up, we had breakfast and then I decided to make a half batch of Steve’s Out Of This World cookies b/c I had a hankerin’ and you can’t deny a hankerin’. They were so tasty and hit the spot, plus they made the house smell so good. By the time I was done, it was time to get ready for church and have a quick lunch and then we headed out the door.
The talks in sacrament meeting were really good. One story in particular stood out to me. It’s from a talk by Elder Jay E. Jensen called “Do You Know How To Repent?”. The story was about a young man being interviewed to go on a mission. He was really haughty and smug and said he’d committed about every major transgression you can commit. The person interviewing him told the young man he couldn’t go on a mission and then said, “You haven’t repented. You’ve just stopped doing something. Sometime in your life you need to visit Gethsemane, and when you have been there, you’ll understand what repentance is. Only after you have suffered in some small degree as the Savior suffered in Gethsemane will you know what repentance is. The Savior has suffered in a way none of us understands for every transgression committed. How dare you laugh and jest and have a haughty attitude about your repentance?”.
Six months later the same man was at a meeting and after the meeting the young man came up and shook his hand and “I noticed a great change that had taken place. He had tears in his eyes. He had almost a holy glow about his countenance. He took my hand in his and said ‘I’ve been there. I’ve been to Gethsemane and back.’ I said, ‘I know. It shows in your face.’” It made a lasting impression on me and is something I will write in my spiritual study journal under the topic of repentance.
I got to teach in Young Women’s about being worthy to always have the companionship of the Holy Ghost and the blessings of that companionship. I felt like I talked way too much b/c we were short on time, so there wasn’t a lot of discussion. I’ll have to remedy that next time I teach. I really do love teaching. It makes me happy. Anyways, after church we had a planning meeting w/ the Laurel’s class presidency so I had brought some of the chocolate chip cookies to tide Autumn over. After the meeting, we rushed to Mom & Dad’s house for tacos b/c we were both so hungry. We watched football and Autumn played w/ her dolls.
I watched the last 1/2 of episode 2 of Downton Abbey b/c I could hardly wait until 8:00 so I could watch the new episode of Downton Abbey. It was SOOOO GOOD and next Sunday seems like an eternity away. That Mr. Bates is a heartthrob. It was 9:00 by this time, so we came home and I put Autumn to bed, tidied up the house, did laundry, and then went to bed.
