OK, I know these pictures are awful, but it was late at night and this was the best I could do w/ the lighting I had. I wanted to show my first week of Project Life (minus the 2 pictures I still need to print off). I have been getting caught in the trap of all the awesome inspiration and comparing my worst w/ their best. I had to remind myself to K.I.S.S. Keep It Simple, Sweetie.
Last year I did my weeks from Sunday-Saturday. This year I wanted to switch and do Monday through Sunday since Mondays are the start of my work week. I kept debating about how to include the first day of the year since it was a Sunday. I didn’t know if I wanted to just double up and Monday/Sunday together or just skip Sunday all together. I decided to put my One Little Word for the year on the front page and just consider that my first day of the year. I’ll have to post a picture of that at another time.
I toyed around w/ the idea of doing my days like this b/c it would be like reading a book, but ultimately I decided against it.
The reason I decided against it was that if I put in a filler sheet (like Autumn’s artwork or things from school in the middle of the week like in this picture) then I didn’t want to have to flip to the next page to see Tues & Wed and then flip back again to see Thurs and Friday.
This is how I am doing my days just b/c it’s a personal preference.
I am doing something different this year w/ the journaling cards. As you can see in the first picture of this blog post, I used the same journaling card for all 7 slots. I love the look of it b/c it gives the feel of a 2 page layout. Also, I am a little OCD and like to have things in order so I laid out all the title cards and made sure there weren’t 2 cards too close in color on consecutive weeks. Then I paired up the decorative journaling cards w/ the title cards.
So, the next page is a completely different title card and set of journaling cards.
But, since there are only a certain amount of each card, when I got to the week of 10/08-10/14, I ran out of enough cards to have all 7 be the same. So, I just did 3 matching on the left page and 4 matching on the right page in coordinating colors. And I think it looks just great. I bet no one who was looking at the book would even notice that but me (and now y’all b/c I am pointing it out).
Then, I ran out of enough cards for that type of setup w/ the journaling cards the week of 12/17-12/23. So, I just used whatever cards I had that matched the title card. Only the last 3 weeks of my PL are like this, and I am totally and 100% OK w/ that. That honestly surprises me that I’m so OK w/ it, b/c I’m usually OCD about things like that and usually would have bought a 2nd Core Kit just to keep it the same. But, variety is the spice of life and it still all coordinates and goes together. The most important thing of all is that I’m happy w/ it and my 2012 PL is all set up which will make it easier for me to stay current w/ it.
That’s what makes PL amazing…it can be done any way you want it to be done and you can do whatever works for you. I am so excited that so many people are using it. Just think how lucky our posterity will be to inherit these treasures! They aren’t going to care what journaling cards we put where, or what order our days of the week are in. I like to think that they will love looking back at these memories we’ve preserved.
