Methuselah Or Medusa?

P1040618 Tonight after dinner, Autumn wanted Mom to brush her hair.  Autumn looks like she’s upset or not enjoying it, but she really does LOVE getting her hair brushed.  Mom said to Autumn, “You have so many snarlies that it’s like brushing Methuselah's hair.”  I heard her from the other room and busted up laughing.  I was laughing so hard I was wheezing.  I said, “Did you mean Medusa instead of Methuselah?  Medusa’s hair was made of snakes and Methuselah was a guy in the Bible that lived to be really old.”  I got such a kick out of it and couldn’t stop laughing.

I decided to Google Methuselah to find out more about him.  I knew he lived to be old, but I wasn’t sure how old.  Here are some interesting facts I didn’t know about him:

  • A son of Enoch in the Old Testament. Methuselah lived 969 years (Gen. 5:21-27); Luke 3:37).  He is the oldest person whose age is mentioned in the Bible.
  • He was a righteous prophet who was left on the earth when the city of Enoch was taken to heaven. He remained on earth to provide a posterity through which Noah would come.
  • According to Wikipedia, “he died…seven days before the beginning of the Great Flood.  According to…Genesis 7:4, God delayed the Flood specifically because of the seven days of mourning in honor of [him].
  • Also, he was the son of Enoch & the grandfather of Noah.

Pretty interesting stuff that I had no clue about!

We had Family Home Evening and watched a few videos.  They were good, especially the one about how Naaman had leprosy and was told to wash himself in the Jordan River 7 times.  I love it how his servant says to him, “if the prophet had bid thee do some great thing, wouldest thou not have done it? how much rather then, when he saith to thee, Wash, and be clean?” (2 Kings 5:13).  Such a good lesson for all of us to not just look for the “great things” in life, but to also listen to and notice the small things that can make all the difference.  It was neat to watch a video of it, b/c it really brought it to life for me and made me understand why Naaman was upset that the prophet wouldn’t come out and talk to him.  I used to think Naaman was just a brat for not being willing to do what was asked at him, but this helped me to personalize the story and made me realize that I do the same thing way too often.

Anyways, it was a good FHE and we came home and I put Autumn to bed and then went over to Karri’s to watch Bachelor.  It was just her and Mary and I tonight, and I can’t believe that Ben kept Courtney!  I hope he comes to realize pretty soon how rotten she is.  I feel bad for the other girls having to put up w/ Courtney.
