Money Management Monday

Today after work/”college”, we went over to Mom & Dad’s for dinner.  Mom made tacos and they were so good, especially w/ the guacamole ranch sauce we made.  When we ate at Fuzzy Taco on Saturday, they showed us how they make it.  They just put ranch, and a glob of guacamole and mix it up.  So, we recreated it at home and it was tasty.  After dinner, I went in the formal living room and sat down to play the piano.  I haven’t played in so long and was super rusty at it.  But, it started coming back to me and was easier the longer I played.  That’s a talent that I really need to work on developing.

We had a short Family Home Evening b/c Dad was so tired that he laid down on the couch in the middle of Mom’s lesson and fell asleep!  LOL!  So, Mom finished up her lesson on sharing and then Autumn & I left.  We were off to have a little life lesson of our own at Toys R Us.

Autumn got a $25 gift card for her birthday back in January that we had never used.  We also had $5 off coupon on any Matel toy that expired today, so I decided we needed to use the coupon and learn about money management.  I told her she had $25 to spend and that we would have to find a toy that fit in her budget.  We walked all over and she found a few fun things that she was interested in, like this fun stuffed animal snake.

If she found something that she liked better than what was in the cart, we had to go put the other thing away so she could stay in her budget.  It came down to a decision between a Rapunzel & Flynn Rider doll or these 3 mermaid dolls.  I was half expecting a melt down that she couldn’t have both (b/c she is SPOILED ROTTEN) and I was all prepared w/ my speech about how she’s lucky to even have the chance to have a gift card and how blessed she is, etc.  But to my pleasant surprise she made her choice and put the other dolls back w/out a peep.  I was very proud of her for being a big girl.  We went up to the register where she handed over the coupon and gift certificate, and she walked out of there just beaming.

I was really wanting some frozen yogurt, but it’s so dang expensive.  So, instead we made another wise money choice and came home and had root beer floats in fancy glasses instead.  I was going to go over to Karri’s tonight to watch a movie, once Nick got home from work, but I was too tired and so were Mary & Christine.  So, I just stayed home and edited pics and worked on my blog and then called it a night.
