Tonight for dinner we had a yummy grilled chicken salad, and then got busy decorating a cake for Young Women’s tonight. I made the cake & fudge last night so they could cool overnight. I whipped up some cream cheese frosting & then Autumn helped me put the blueberries and raspberries cut in half on the cake to look like a flag. This is her “I don’t want to smile for the camera” smile.
We got to Young Women’s and the A/C was broken! It was so stinkin’ hot. We talked about what it means to index and how we want to do 1,000 names in 1,000 hours from the 1940 cenus. 1,000 hours will be on August 8th, so we’ll have a party that day to celebrate reaching our goal. The girls split up into 3 groups and went w/ a leader to someone’s home, where they learned how to index and got to practice doing a few names.
They didn’t need me to drive, so Autumn & I stayed at the church and got the treats ready to go along w/ a note. I had originally planned on making sugar cookies in the shape of a heart to represent the Spirit of Elijah & turning the “hearts” of the children to the Fathers. But, I didn’t have time to go to all that effort of making the dough, rolling it out, cooking it, frosting the cookies, etc. So, that’s why I did the fudge and cake. I wrote this note on the board. After we wrote the note on the board, Autumn & I went in another room where the A/C was working. I practiced playing the piano, and it was ROUGH! My nails are too long and I’m not used to how hard I had to press the keys on that particular piano. Mom & Dad’s piano is older so the keys don’t require quite so much pressure. It was good to practice, though.
I used these small heart shaped cookie cutters to cut out the fudge. The lighting was funky, so the colors all all wrong in this pic, but it’s the only one I got. Anyways, that’s why I had that note on the board:
We’re not “fudging” when we say it’s important to turn the “hearts” of the children to the “fathers.”
It was a little bit of a cheesy stretch to fit the Flag cake into the saying. But I figured the cake is 4th of July and that could tie into the founding “fathers”. LOL! The girls loved the treats when they got back from the various homes where they tried indexing. Autumn was a total gem the whole time.
