This is an indication of how my night went last night. I kept waking up to blow my nose and suck on a cough drop. It was miserable. But, I’m thankful that we even have medicines that can help and that we have soft tissues w/ lotion.
We feel bad that Dad has to wake up so early to teach seminary, especially since he’s teaching the 5:45 class this year instead of the 6:00 class. But, Autumn’s glad that seminary is back in session so the tradition of doughnuts from Papa on Fridays has resumed.
At work today, I went to WalMart during my lunch break to buy more tissues b/c I used all the ones we had at work and filled up my trash can w/ them. So gross. I also got more cold medicine, Vaseline to put on my chapped nose, and cough drops. My boss told me to go home at 2:00 since it was a long weekend and the phones were quiet and I was so miserable. I came home and slept for a few hours so I could be ready to experience history in the making. Mom & Dad got 4 season tickets to the local football team’s games.
This was the first game in the new $60 million stadium. There’s been so much buzz around this stadium that ESPN was going to be there. I made this sign so we could try and be on TV. But, once we got there we heard that ESPN had backed out. Darn it! Aunt Jeri was going to come, but she said it was too hot so Curt came w/ us instead.
It was neat to see all the players walk down the steps together in their uniforms. The crowd went wild.
We also cheered like crazy when they came running out of the tunnel.
Look at how many cameras and media there were down on the field for the coin toss. There was even a helicopter circling around the stadium and a few planes. You would have thought it was a college or NFL game!
At half time, the score was 14 to 0. We also loved getting to see the big blue moon. The flags were at 1/2 staff in honor of Neil Armstrong who died on Saturday, August 25th. I was looking at it and thinking of what this website said, “Friday's blue moon is exponentially more special than any other previous blue moon, though. It pays tribute to the world's first man to walk on the moon…”
At half time, it was incredible & electric to see the 800 plus band take the field.
They spelled out E-A-G-L-E-S on the field. After our band did their performance, the Southlake Carroll team joined our band and together they played “76 Trombones” to commemorate the 1st game at the stadium. It gave me goose bumps.
The final score was 24 to 0, and we were so excited b/c the Southlake Carroll Dragons are the defending state champions. It was a great game and I’m glad I got to be there for a historic moment, even though I wasn’t feeling 100%. We left the game at 10:30 and took Curt home and picked up Autumn. Mary said she did great and had a wonderful time. As soon as we got home, we both went right to sleep.
