I got up this morning and went & got my nails done while Nick stayed home w/ Autumn. Then when I got home, I grabbed a bite to eat, changed into church clothes, took Autumn over to Mom & Dad’s and headed over to the church to help at the Nativity. I was asked to be an “Ambassador” from 12-2, which basically meant I stood in one section of the nativity displays and welcomed people, smiled a lot, answered any questions, and kindly asked little kids not to touch the nativities. One little kid was sick and ended up throwing up all over the floor. It wasn’t in my section, but I ran over to help clean up the mess while someone went and got a mop. I’m just glad it was on the wooden floor of the gym & not on the carpeted area.
After my 12-2 shift, I went back to Mom & Dad’s house. We had something to eat and then Autumn & I were both really tired, especially me from being up in the middle of the night w/ my eye the past 2 nights in a row. So, we went and laid down in Mom & Dad’s bed and slept for 2 1/2 hours!
At 6:30 I took Autumn over to the Deckers so they could keep an eye on her while Mom & Dad & I went to the church to pack up all of Mom’s nativities. It was SO HOT in that gym even though we had the A/C on (it was 82 degrees today) and I had sweat just dripping down my neck. We had a new person helping us this year and Mom missed the lady that usually helps us, but we got her 100+ nativities packed up and loaded into the back of the truck by 8:30. I stopped at Deckers & got Autumn and then we began the process of unloading the truck & taking the nativities inside.
We did it in stages…we took the bins to the bottom of the stairs and stacked them there. Then when the truck was empty we began carrying the bins upstairs and stacked them at the top of the stairs. Then we took them into the attic where Dad arranged them all so they would fit. I was so overheated and out of breath when it was all said and done. It’s such a long & hot & tiring process but it must be worth it b/c we do it every year.
By this time it was 9:45 so Autumn & I left to go home. My gas tank was down to 1/4 full so we stopped at 7 Eleven to fill up. Autumn stole my phone and snuck this picture of me. It’s blurry, it’s not very flattering, but I wanted to post it b/c I love that she’s documenting real life from her little 5 year old perspective.
She begged that we go inside and get a treat, and I was so hot that a nice cold Slurpee sounded good. So we went in and got ourselves a treat as a reward for surviving another nativity set up & take down.
We had Nick take a pic of us when we got home to document the whole adventure. Look at how red my face still was after an hour! I’m glad we’re done…until next year!
