Annual New Year’s Pool Dip

We had a nice and relaxing morning of coloring, blogging, doing laundry, and spending time together.  At noon we finally got dressed & went over to Mom & Dad’s to help Mom get ready for the big annual pool dip.  We usually do it after Christmas and before New Year’s, but this was the 1st Saturday that Dad had off, so we did it this Saturday.  Mom got this nice Speedo swimsuit for Autumn at Costco.  She originally bought Autumn a size 8, but it was too small!  This is a size 10 and it barely fits.  The plastic form that the swimsuit came on even had bumps on the chest!  I keep telling Autumn that she has GOT.TO.STOP.GROWING.UP!  She’s barely 6!

All the party goers came at 2:30 and we got the party started.  We had tacos, enchiladas, Mexican rice, chips, salsa, drinks, etc.  Britt brought everyone these scarves and gloves, so we had to model them for a picture.

Brooke’s birthday is tomorrow, so we had a few presents for Brooke & Autumn to open.  These are from Heather, but she wasn’t there b/c she was sick.  It’s also her birthday this month, Zack’s, & Britt’s!  Lots of January birthdays.

After all the fun and talking, it was time to do what we were all gathered to do…be crazy and jump in the 39* pool!  Nick always jumps in first, and he jumped in before anyone could even get out there to take a picture.  I LOVE this facial expression of Tyler’s that I was able to capture on film, b/c this is pretty much how everyone’s face looks when they break the surface of the pool water!

Then there’s this cool one of Dad flying through the air.  “It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s Patriotic Dad!”  Most people angle towards the hot tub b/c you want to get out of the pool and into the hot tub as fast as you can.  He’s crazy and swam over to the steps and got out that way!

But, it’s b/c he wanted to go over and give his best friend, Britt, a hug!  Dad got him all wet and we were all laughing so hard.

Britt wasn’t going to get in, but he did at the last minute.  I had to include this picture b/c this it captures people’s reactions as he rolls into the hot tub.  Some people turn away or shield their face.  Other people laugh and scream.  It’s always good & crazy fun.

Here’s our crew of brave souls for this year.  I have to laugh at how pathetic we are compared the crazy people that cut holes in the middle of frozen lakes and don’t have a hot tub to climb into

Since we have so many January birthdays, we had a big Costco birthday cake for all of them.

Here are the 4 birthday people we had wearing their birthday crowns.  I think I caught Britt mid singing.

Mom got the 2 little girls these cute Birthday Girl ribbons.  It’s hard to believe that it was 6 years ago that we celebrated their 1st birthdays and let them rip apart a cake.  Now look at them!  They’re growing up way too fast.

After all the swimming and birthday cake we just sat outside and talked.  It’s scenes like this that make me so happy.  Family and friends gathered together making memories and strengthening bonds and having fun.  After everyone went home, we just crashed and burned and relaxed on the couch.  It was a great pool party and great day.
