Delightful Dahlias

Last night, I locked my bedroom door so Autumn couldn’t come and get in bed w/ me.  I talked to her about it before I put her to bed and explained that she’s a big 6 year old now and that she needs to stay in her own bed.  It went great until 2:30 am when she woke up and just stood at the door and cried and knocked for a whole hour.  I was strong and didn’t get up and let her in, but it was heartbreaking to hear her outside the door.  She tried singing songs, she tried begging, she asked if I still loved her, and she even said a prayer in between her sobs that made me cry!  She finally ended up sleeping on the floor outside my room.  Tough love is so hard sometimes!

IMG_9161 We got up this morning and snuggled in my bed for a while and I talked to her about last night.  We watched Mickey Mouse Clubhouse together & then got cleaned up and ready for the day.  We went over to Mom & Dad’s and watched conference.  She wanted to play a game of stacking cups and seeing how fast she could take them down into one stack.  Then she made up other games w/ the cups.

IMG_9162 Emma looked so cute laying on the floor w/ her head between her paws.  I just had to get down on the floor and take a pic of her.  During one of the talks a story was told about a prisoner of war, Jay Hess, that was allowed to send home one note that had to be 25 words or less.  Jay wrote the following to his family:

“These things are important: temple, marriage, mission, college.  Press on, set goals, write history, take family pictures twice a year.”

I thought it was so interesting that he would use up 6 of the 20 words he wrote to say to take pictures.  I pointed that out to my family and they said, “yeah, but he said only twice a year, not twice an hour!!!”  LOL!  It’s so true…I LOVE taking pictures and capturing memories.  I think it’s interesting that he also said to “write history.”  Maybe he’s a “Project Lifer” and just didn’t know it!

P1090561 The Berrett’s came over for the 4th and final session of conference.  Elder Holland’s talk was PHENOMENAL, which was no surprise.  You can watch it HERE.  This pic is the inside of a tulip in Mom & Dad’s backyard taken w/ my point and shoot camera.  After conference, Curt called us and said to come over and eat at their house b/c he had all of his hockey kids over for a celebration dinner and they had a bunch of food left over.

IMG_9167 This was a beautiful flower they had planted in their front yard.  It reminds me of the flower on Tangled.

IMG_9181 Lori & I had so much fun loving on the baby goat and one of the puppies.  They’re just so sweet and cute!

IMG_9183 Mom wanted me to take a picture of how these flowers had yellow dots around the center of the flower.

IMG_9189 I oohed and aahed when I saw these flowers in the backyard.  They are GORGEOUS and almost look like the edge of a pointed quilt fabric.  Nature never ceases to amaze me!

IMG_9184I liked this picture of one that’s just unfolding and one that’s completely opened.  They are Dalina Grande Tampico Dahlias.  Curt wasn’t kidding when he said they had so much food.  They had ham, sausage, chicken, brisket, steak, potatoes, green beans, and brownies w/ Mary’s homemade chocolate sauce.  My tummy was SO FULL when we finally left.  It was fun to just sit and visit w/ them for a while.

We went back to Mom & Dad’s house and watched the new TV show Granite Flats.  I was loving the pretty 1960’s retro fabrics and fashion and cars.  It’s nice to know there’s a show on TV that the whole family can watch together w/out worrying if something inappropriate will be shown or talked about.  I worked on a new turtle puzzle that Mom got for us to do.  Autumn & I packed up and came home at 8:00 so I could get her to bed.  It was such a fabulous weekend and I’m sad it’s over.
