Autumn & I got up at 8:00 this morning, got dressed, and went to get the state inspection done on the car. It was early for a Saturday, but if we didn’t get there early we’d have to wait in a long line later on in the day. Especially since it’s the last Saturday of the month. They had this children’s book in the lobby, so Autumn read to me while we waited. I am SO IMPRESSED & PROUD of her! She read 95% of it by herself and just needed my help on a few words. She’s grown so much as a reader this year in Kindergarten.
She loves to get a big bubble gum ball from this dispenser every time we come here, so I always make sure to have a quarter in my purse. She looks so incredibly grown up here, and it’s so bittersweet.
We came home and had some breakfast and then I talked Nick into helping me w/ yard work before he had to leave for work. This is so sad & pathetic to admit, but I have never mowed the yard since we’ve lived in this house. I figured I’d better learn before Nick is gone for 2 weeks to Japan. It was cloudy outside and only about 80 degrees w/ a nice breeze, but I was sweating like crazy! My face was bright red and I felt like I was going to die!!! And that was just the front yard, I didn’t even mow the backyard.
Since I was already on a roll and Nick was edging & cleaning up the grass clippings, I decided to trim our tree. The branches have been hanging low, and touch the top of the car every time I drive in or out of the driveway. I cut a LOT of branches off and my arms were burning by the time I was done. Who knew yard work was such a good workout?
We had so many branches cut off that Nick had to cut them into smaller pieces while Autumn & I stuffed them into the trash can. We completely filled this up, even after Nick got in and jumped up and down on the branches to smoosh them down. I told him I have a whole new appreciation for him and all the yard work he does. I told him I’ll never take it for granted again when he does yard work.
After we were done, I must have had heat exhaustion b/c I felt so sick. I laid down on the cool tile floor in the kitchen and just rested for a while. After that, we went over to Mom & Dad’s house for lunch, and so we could go swimming and cool off. Mom was upstairs working on this cover/quilt to put on the piano at church in the Primary room. The piano is SO LOUD, and this cover will help to soften the sound. If you look closely, you can see some of the quilting she did.
Here’s a close up of part of it. She used her big fancy machine to quilt the titles of various Primary songs onto the blue fabric. She’s so stinkin’ talented! We didn’t do much the rest of the day, but it was nice to just spend time together before Mom & Dad leave for Japan.
