Hearts Of The Fathers & Children

Today for Family Home Evening (FHE) we talked about the spirit of Elijah and what it means when the Bible says, “Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord. And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.” (Malachi 4:5-6)

Autumn is holding a picture of when Elijah appeared to Joseph Smith & Oliver Cowdery in the Kirtland Temple and gave them the Priesthood keys of that power. (D&C 110:13-16) My Mom’s cousin had just sent me a bunch of our deceased ancestor’s names so I can take them to the temple and do their work for them. We talked about why that is so important, how it links us together, and that when Autumn turns 12 she can also go to the temple and help with this wonderful work. As we looked at some of the temple names we noticed that for our ancestor Emma Stowe it was her 140th birthday this very day! It’s also cool, b/c today is the 185th anniversary of the day the Church of Jesus Christ was established again on the Earth.

I’m so eternally grateful that I get to live in a time when the Priesthood has been restored. Where I can go to the temple and perform the saving ordinances for myself and for my family members how have passed on and can’t do it for themselves. That I can teach this to my child and prepare her to go to the temple and feel the peace and joy and love that can come from temple service. What huge and truly amazing blessings!
