Volleyball & General Conference

It was a little tough getting up this morning, especially since I was up so late last night. Autumn had her first volleyball game today. (She actually had one last week but we missed it b/c we were doing Easter at the farm). Her game started at 8:00 & we got there just in time, b/c we had never been to the building before and we got a little lost. They were lined up and practicing hitting the ball over the net to the coaches.

Doing a little pre-game cheer to get themselves pumped up and ready to go.

Autumn's overhand serves usually hit the net (I'll need to practice having her hit it high enough), but her underhand serves are awesome & she scored 3 points in a row for her team. But, sadly it wasn't enough to win any of the 3 games they played.

"Good game. Good game. Good game."

Even though we didn't win, I'm proud of Autumn & all the other girls. They tried their best and had a fun time.

We went to Winco to do some grocery shopping & get some treats for General Conference. It's become a tradition that we print off each of the 15 Apostle's pictures (First Presidency & Quorum of the 12) and then attach it w/ some tape at random to a treat. When that person speaks, we eat that treat. We love getting our treats at Winco b/c they have a huge selection of items in their bulk section. Plus, we're able to get just a little bit of what we want since we don't need a whole big bag of peach rings for example.

The morning session was great, and my favorite talk was from Elder Dale G Renlund b/c he talked about living in South Africa! :) He said, "The greater the distance between the giver and the receiver, the more the receiver develops a sense of entitlement." He Nephi & Laman & Lemuel as an example. When he said, "childish whining, disgruntled entitlement, and derisive skepticism," I wondered how on Earth the translators would translate that??? LOL!

Between sessions we went outside to enjoy the gorgeous weather! I'm so happy to see that the Iris are blooming. I love how they look like silk fabric before they bloom.

I tried making THIS dessert, but it turned out as a soupy mess instead of being like thick pudding. I think it's b/c I used bottled lime (or lemon) juice instead of using freshly squeezed juice. There must be something different in the acidity of fresh vs bottled juice. Here's the recipe:

  • 1 can evaporated milk
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
  • freshly squeezed juice of 5 lemons (or limes)
  • 2 sleeves of Maria's cookies
Pour the 2 milks into the blender. Add the juice of the lemons (or limes). Blend for 2 - 3 minutes. The mixture should be the consistency of a thin pudding. Line a 9x9 pan w/ a layer of cookies. Pour 1/3 of the mixture over the cookies. Place another layer of cookies over the mixture. Pour another 1/3 of the mixture over the cookies. Place one more layer of cookies over the mixture. Top that w/ the remaining 1/3 of the milk mixture. Refrigerate for 3-4 hours, or until the milk mixture has thickened up. Serve cold. (You can watch THIS video to see how it's done).

Autumn went w/ me at 2:00 to go get my nails done. I was sad to have the color changing nails taken off, but I needed to go back to my normal french tip nails. They don't look as bad when they grow out. After that we went back to Nate & Riannon's to watch the afternoon session of conference.

While I took a little nap, Nate took Autumn & Olivia outside. I thought they were going for a bike ride, but they went running instead. Autumn came bursting into the house just SOBBING! I asked her what was wrong (thinking she had been hurt) and she said that Uncle Nate made her fun a mile. She has slight asthma & so it freaked her out that she couldn't catch her breath. Plus, she's like me and likes to do things at her own pace instead of being forced to do it. She just cried and cried and cried. We packed up and came home b/c neither of us had showered today & we were both gross & sweaty. After we were cleaned up we laid on the couch and watched a little TV before going to bed.
