This morning I got up and wanted to go on a little nature drive. The yards here in Utah are just incredible and there are gorgeous plants and flowers all over. You can’t tell in this picture, but these sunflowers were as big as my head. They were so heavy that they were bent over the fence. They were so bright and cheerful. I was so surprised at how many people were out walking around the neighborhood so early in the morning. There were all sorts of people out from all age ranges and shapes and sizes. It made me smile, b/c that is something you would never see in Texas b/c it’s just too hot and humid even so early in the morning. But here in Utah it’s the norm.
I also couldn’t help but notice these big tropical looking flowers. I didn’t know the white flowers on the left grew in big bushes like that. I don’t know what the flowers on the right are, but I love them! They don’t look that big in this picture but they were the size of my hand w/ my fingers all spread out.
I had to get a picture of this playground, b/c this is where Tara & I used to come have midnight talks all the time. We would go get chili cheese burritos at Taco Bell and then she would sit on that top platform and I would sit on the steps and we’d talk and laugh. One night we were talking and the sprinklers turned out and scared the crap out of us and she hurried down the slide and I went down the steps and we started running. We were laughing so hard we had tears streaming down our cheeks. Such good memories!
I went down to Provo Bakery to get some of their famous orange rolls for breakfast, but they didn’t have any ready yet. So, I decided to go get a breakfast burrito at Beto’s instead. I used to get them a lot when I lived in Utah, but they’ve changed their name to Rancherito’s. They still had the same great burrito. This thing had to weigh at least 2 pounds and as you can see was longer than my hand. And, it was only $3.99! LOVE IT!
I came back to Aunt Jill’s and got showered for the day and then Rufio and I hopped in the car and drove up to SLC so I could have Josh cut my hair. He has a little shop inside a swanky gym. This is my before picture.
This is the during picture. He took off a LOT of hair and thinned it out and put in layers.
I had shown him this picture of Martita from The Next Food Network Star, b/c I love how she has move volume in her hair. I love the haircut Josh gave me, and prefer a side part instead of down the middle. It will be so fun to wash it tomorrow and style it how I usually do w/ gel and hairspray.
I have a funny story to tell about Rufio. Before we had gone in to Josh’s she had switched some of her things to a smaller purse. When we got to Josh’s she noticed she was missing her coin purse that had $50 in it. So, she said she was going to go back to the car to see if she could find it. Josh & I both said that was a bad idea and we didn’t want her walking around SLC by herself. She said she was fine and knew exactly where to go. It’s not like we could force her to stay, so she took off. She was gone for a while, so I called her to see where she was and if she had found her coin purse.
She said she had got turned around and didn’t know where she was! I had her tell me what street she was on and she said some street that wasn’t where she should have been. I gave her directions on where to go to get back to the parking garage and she said she could find it. So, she said to call back in a few minutes. Josh & I were both freaking out. We called her a few minutes later and she said she was in a truck w/ a nice guy in an orange shirt. At first I thought she was joking, but I realized she was being serious. I had it on speaker phone so Josh could hear and we both looked at each other like, “Oh crap!” She said he was nice and she wasn’t scared of him and he was driving her around the block to try and find the parking garage. She said she was fine and to call back in a few minutes.
When we hung up Josh & I were really freaking out. We started joking and laughing to deal w/ the situation b/c there was nothing we could do at that point. We said the family was going to kill us if we lost Rufio. Anyways, we called her a few minutes later and she said she had found the parking garage, found the car, and her coin purse was sitting on the passenger seat!
We gave her very specific directions on how to get back to where we were. We would have kept her on the phone the whole time, but she said she can’t walk and talk on the phone at the same time. We were SO RELIVED when she came walking in the door. We told her she’s grounded and isn’t allowed to leave our sight again. She said as she was walking back to where we were that she saw the construction guy that helped her and he gave her a big hug and kiss on the cheek when she told him she found her coin purse. I am so thankful for nice/helpful people in the world!
We walked across the bridge to Kneaders, and Rufio treated us to lunch. There were some HOTTIE Polynesian guys working there! Only in SLC can you see something like this sing and chairs on the walls of a major restaurant. It’s comes from quotes by Lucy Mack Smith & Pres. Ezra Taft Benson.
“God intended the family to be eternal. With all my soul, I testify to the truth of that declaration. May He bless us to strengthen our homes and the lives of each family member so that in due time we can report to our Heavenly Father in His celestial home that are all there ~ Father, Mother, Sister, Brother, all who hold each other dear. Each chair is filled. We are all back home.” ~Pres. Ezra Taft Benson
“We must cherish one another, watch over one another and gain instruction, that we may all sit down in Heaven together.” ~Lucy Mack Smith
Anyways, lunch was a blast and we were laughing so hard that people were looking at us b/c we were having so much fun. Josh had to get back to work, so Rufio & I drove the long way home so we could look at some of the sights. We also saw a lot of old familiar places from when I lived up in SLC. It brought back a lot of memories.
We came home and relaxed for a little while and then I went in Jill’s to get something and Kelly was there bringing in a TON of food for Jill’s birthday party tonight. She had so many veggies from her garden. I helped her cut up cucumbers, bell peppers, and make a beet salad. We also had small red potatoes w/ pesto, Anaheim peppers stuffed w/ cheese and wrapped in bacon, the softest rolls ever, and BBQ ribs. We also had homemade root beer. It was a feast fit for royalty.
We sat outside and enjoyed the beautiful weather and then it was time to sing to Aunt Jill for her birthday (which is tomorrow).
Carly made jell-o poke cake, which is Jill’s favorite. Then Kelly had this incredible sorbet. Here is the recipe:
1 part raspberry sorbet
2 parts pineapple sorbet
cut up bananas
cut up raspberries
You just let the sorbets melt until you can fold everything together and then refreeze it until you’re ready to serve it. It was so good and refreshing. After we ate, we just sat and talked and enjoyed being together. Then Kelly & I got busy doing the dishes so Jill wouldn’t have to clean anything up. Once we were done w/ that, and everyone had left it was already 10:00 so I went upstairs to my room and edited pictures and blogged.
