We had a nice leisurely morning, painted our nails, watched TV, and then had to hurry and get ready at 11:00. I got this dress for just $3.50 at the kid’s consignment store yesterday and I think Autumn looks adorable in it.
When we were trying to take our traditional Sunday picture together, her eyes were closed in all the pics. So, I finally said we should do a silly one…
We rushed over to Mom & Dad’s so I could get my object lesson out of their freezer. This is one of our favorite desserts. It’s just an angel food cake sliced into layers w/ 3 kinds of sherbet in between the angel food layers. Then I frosted it w/ whipped cream and put it back in the freezer for the whipped cream to harden.
The lesson in Young Women’s today was on dating, and we talked about why we’re counseled not to date until after the age of 16. Then we talked about why even after the age of 16 it should be group or casual dating instead of steady dating w/ one person. I brought out the cake and shared w/ them that it’s good to date a lot of different guys so they can try lots of “flavors” and learn the different “layers” of themselves.
I also have to mention that I had covered the cake in tinfoil and put it in the freezer at the church to keep it cold until it was time for my lesson (2 hours later). When I went to get it out of the freezer, someone had taken a big chunk out of one side of it! When I showed it to the girls in my class they were so appalled and upset that someone would do that at church. I was too, but was just glad the cake was still there at all. You’d think stuff like that wouldn’t happen at church, but church is full of imperfect people (which is all of us).
We talked about the “funnel theory” from THIS talk by Jeanette G. Smith called “Unsteady Dating,” and it was just a really good and open discussion. I also used an example of magnets and how the closer they get, the more of a pull there is. We talked about how do you know where to draw the line so you don’t get into trouble (AKA the magnetic pull being so strong that the magnets came together). Hopefully it’s one the girls will remember.
Jason had texted while we were in church to see how Autumn was doing. Autumn wanted to talk to him and the kids, so we called him on the way home from church. He didn’t answer, so Autumn left him a message. I thought she had hung up the phone, but I guess she sent him this text message. LOL! I’m in trouble if she’s already wanting to text at such a young age. That’s why she won’t be getting a cell phone until she’s 30.
We were going to have a shrimp boil yesterday w/ Maggie and her family, but those plans fell apart. So, we had our shrimp boil today for dinner and Pres. & Sis. Jones joined us. It was their first time trying it, and they loved it. What’s not to love about eating w/ your hand and having your food scattered down the middle of the table? It was fun to have them eat w/ us and tell us fun stories about their lives.
I had to leave at 6:30 to go help set up for our Single Adult fireside. Bishop Graham came and spoke to us about the prophet Joseph Smith. He is so knowledgeable in that area and I really like how he kept relating things back to us so we could use them in our own lives. Mom sent me this pic and said that Autumn had covered up Dad like a mummy. LOL! I helped Nancy w/ the refreshments and clean up, and got home around 9:00. Autumn was asleep and was not happy when I woke her up to go home. She went right back to sleep when we got home and I hope she won’t be a bear to wake up in the morning.
