Happy Halloween 2009

IMG_2016

IMG_2017 This morning we had a nice and relaxing morning of watching Disney Channel and then I watched this random movie on TV while Autumn played. The movie was called Election and had Reese Witherspoon and Matthew Broderick. It was lame. After eating some lunch, I wanted to get out of the house and enjoy the gorgeous weather, so Autumn and I headed over to a shopping center that has a lot of fun stuff for kids. First, we stopped by this train car and she had fun running up and down the stairs. Then we went and played in this maze that’s in the shape of Texas. I chased her and she ran into a dead end and was “hiding” from me.

IMG_2019 Then she wanted to go see some pumpkins, so we walked over to this pumpkin house, and she had a good time running in and out of it.

IMG_2021

IMG_2018 She’s such a cutie and had to touch every pumpkin and tell them all hi. She even tried to pick up a few of them, but they were too heavy.

IMG_2023 I love it when I can catch her in a good mood and get her to smile for the camera. If you look close, you can she that she is wearing two necklaces, b/c she insisted on it. She’s a girl after my own heart. After saying hi to all the pumpkins we went over to a jewelry store that’s like Sam Moon. They have cheap jewelry (and lots of it), but I think I still like Sam Moon better. Autumn was really good in the store as long as I let her push the little shopping cart around.

IMG_2031I had to bribe her to leave the jewelry store by telling her we were going to go get ice cream. We went and got some frozen yogurt (1/2 pumpkin and 1/2 avocado). We were so fancy that we sat in this big huge booth all by ourselves and just enjoyed our frozen yogurt like two fancy ladies. She wanted to try sitting in these cool little green seats they had for kids.

IMG_2032 After that we went to WalMart to get some groceries to make THE YUMMIEST pumpkin treat EVER! Kristin brought some into work yesterday and I thought I could not get enough of the pumpkin treats and she was kind enough to share the recipe w/ me (which I will share w/ y’all below). Who needs pumpkin pie when you can have these…they’re THAT good. Anyways, the only way I can get Autumn to behave in the store is to let her push the cart. But, she refused to let go of her Mulan toys, so if you look close, she put them in her mouth so she could have both hands free to push the cart. What a kid!

We went home to rest for a while and I had rented Nothing Like The Holidays from the Red Box. It was a good movie and it made me excited for Thanksgiving and Christmas to get here. The other day when I was on a walk I had my ipod on shuffle and my favorite Christmas song came on…All I Want For Christmas Is You by Mariah Carey. It made me so happy and put me in a festive mood. Anyways, after the movie we came over to Mom & Dad’s and I made the pumpkin treats. Here is the recipe and I highly recommend y’all make them.

Pumpkin Pie Dessert Squares

CRUST:
1 yellow cake mix (reserve 1 cup)
1 egg
1 stick butter (melted)
Mix together and press into a greased 9x13 pan.

FILLING:
1 lrg can pumpkin pie mix (not plain pumpkin)
2/3 c evaporated milk
2 eggs
Mix and pour onto crust.

TOPPING:
1 c reserved cake mix
1/4 c packed brown sugar
2 tsp cinnamon
Mix all together and sprinkle over filling. Then take 1 stick of butter and cut it into squares and dot the top of the filling with the butter pieces.

Bake at 350 degrees for 50 min to 1 hour or until knife comes out clean. Top with whip cream and try not to eat the whole pan all by yourself!

IMG_2034After making those, it was time to head over to the Trunk-or-Treat at the Jones’ house. Autumn dressed up as Cinderella (w/ a tan) this year. Not only does she have the Cinderella dress, but also the shoes and the doll. She was so excited when we got there and she saw Maggie and instantly said, “MULAN!”

IMG_2037 I wasn’t going to dress up this year, but at the last second I remembered Mom & Dad had these Medieval costumes that Mom had made forever ago when we lived in Germany. Look at those sexy tights Nick is wearing! We got to the party and I helped Christine w/ the cotton candy and popcorn. She is one of the neatest ladies and I just admire her so much.

IMG_2040 Autumn won some glitter lipstick in a fishing pond thing and she had 1/2 of it on before I even noticed. She just kept applying it over and over and over, but only on her top lip (and above her top lip…I’m going to have to teach her how to put it on). Then, she decided it was also multi-purpose and put it on her fingernails, too. She’s such a girly girl.

IMG_2042 We walked around and said hi to everyone and then got some chili and chips and cornbread and homemade root beer. It was a lot of fun and they also had a cake walk. We left before the trunk-or-treating started, but on our way out we saw Curt. Autumn refused to go to him, b/c I don’t think she knew it was him…how could you in this get up? LOL! He’s such a crazy guy.

We came back to Mom & Dad’s and Autumn wanted to go lay on their bed and watch Mulan and she was out in 15 minutes (b/c she never took a nap today). So much for trick-or-treating…she’s sleeping right through it. Oh, well. There’s always next year. I hope everyone has a SPOOKY and HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
