Snowy Saturday

IMG_2325 This morning, Dad & I got up at 5:45 and got cleaned up and ready to go to the temple.  The roads were clear, so we were able to drive down there.  We pulled in to the temple parking lot only to find the temple was closed!  So, we turned around and drove home.  We got home and went back to sleep.  After a lazy morning, we got up and went and met Dad at Chipotle for lunch before he went to the clinic.

IMG_2326 Autumn wanted to use the camera and this is the picture she took.  She did pretty good except for not holding it still long enough.

IMG_2327 This was on the bottom of our chip bag, which I thought was funny.  I LOVE Chipotle chips & their guacamole.

IMG_3046When we got home, we made some sugar cookies. I used this recipe I found on a blog.  I made it and it was too dry and wouldn’t hold together, so I added an egg and 1 Tbs of milk and then they turned out great.  Autumn enjoyed eating them.

BUTTERLICIOUS DROP SUGAR COOKIES
2 3/4 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. baking powder
dash salt
1 c. butter, softened
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 egg (I used two)
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. almond extract
(I added a Tbs of milk b/c the mixture was too dry)

Preheat oven to 375. Sift together the flour, soda, baking powder, and salt. Cream together the butter and sugar. Add the egg and vanilla. Add the dry ingredients and blend until combined. Drop by teaspoonful onto a greased baking sheet. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until you see the color changing slightly along the edges. Allow to sit on the pan for 2 minutes before cooling on a wire rack. Frost and decorate if desired.

IMG_3050 I used my standby cream cheese frosting recipe and we added some red sprinkles to make the cookies festive.  I don’t like making sugar cookies where you have to let the dough chill and then roll them out w/ flour…too much work and too messy.  These cookies were super easy and were no muss, no fuss.  Love that.

IMG_3052 After making cookies and watching a little TV, we were tired Autumn & Mom & Emma & I all went and fell asleep in Mom’s bed.  It was so nice to take a little snoozer nap.  Autumn finally woke up and went straight for the cookies.  She got one and went and curled up in her recliner.  She’s such a cute little bug.

IMG_3053 Dad got home from work and the wrestling match at the high school.  9 of our 11 wrestlers are going to State.  Anyways, he got home and we watched GI Joe, which is one of the movies Dad rented from the Red Box.  Autumn made him lay down on the floor so she could cover him up w/ a blanket and then she sat on his belly while she watched the movie.

IMG_3055 After the movie, Autumn wanted to dance to the song that came on during the credits.  It’s “Boom Boom Pow” by the Black Eyed Peas.  I don’t know how she knows that song, but she does and was having Dad jump around and dance w/ her.  After that she took him in the kitchen and said she wanted some friendship tea.

We’re watching the Olympics now and it’s so heartbreaking that the Georgian athlete died yesterday while doing a luge practice run!  Just think…he was just doing something he’s done hundreds of times before and had no idea that it would be his last run.  They were saying tonight that he talked to his parents before that run, so that is good.  But it just emphasizes how important each moment is b/c we never know when our last one will be!  I am so sad for his family!
