Temple, WalMart & Fireworks

IMG_2739 Last night as I was falling asleep, I realized that today is the last Saturday of the month. So, I set my alarm and got up and went to the 7:00 session. It was in Tongan, so all of us English speakers had to wear headsets so we could understand what was going on. Even though I didn’t understand the language, it was a neat experience to know that no matter if it’s in Tongan or English or Slovene or German it’s all the same Gospel and it’s still true.

IMG_6416 I stopped at Chick Fil’A and got a breakfast burrito for Nick (to thank him for watching Autumn for me) and one for Autumn & I. Their breakfast burritos are a little bit more expensive than the McDonald’s ones, but they’re a lot bigger and they have these super tasty grilled onions and bell peppers in them. Definitely worth the little bit of extra money.

Anyways, I got a lot done today like loading the dishwasher, doing 2 loads of laundry, vacuuming, putting an area rug under the dining room table, and the biggest chore I got done was taking all of Autumn’s clothes that are too small and putting them away in a tupperware container. Dad stopped by to say hi for a minute and Autumn kept climbing all over him like he was a tree and she was a little monkey. Such a little bug!

DSC04643 When we were cleaning out her closet, we found this adorable outfit that Auntie Tara bought her back in July of 2007. I remember when Tara gave her this outfit and I couldn’t even imagine Autumn being old enough to wear it. Looking at this old picture of her w/ Tara just makes me cry. But I made sure to tell Autumn she was wearing a special outfit today b/c Auntie Tara bought it for her.

IMG_2741 We went to WalMart to get some groceries. Since our WalMart has updated their layout, I don’t know where anything is anymore. Somehow we ended up in the pet section, which is next to the chips. Weird! Anyways, Autumn wanted to stop and say hi to all the fish.

IMG_2742 We had to get some hair detangler for Autumn and she saw the fingernail polish. Because she had been so incredibly good while we shopped (and b/c it was only $2), I let her pick out any color she wanted. I thought she would go for a bright pink…

IMG_2743 …but she went for this sparkly, shimmery color. Such a little diva in the making. She kept saying she was hungry, so we stopped at the McDonald’s in WalMart and got a burger and drink. She kept saying she wanted to go play, but I had to explain to her that this McDonald’s didn’t have a play area! It’s so funny how little kids’ minds work and that b/c the one by our house has one, all McDonald’s should have one.

IMG_6421We came home and put away all the groceries and then went over to Mom & Dad’s to play and swim. Dad kept trying to teach Autumn how to dive by telling her to fall head first into the hoop. She wouldn’t do it, so he told her to just jump in, but she didn’t want to do that either. She just wanted him to pull her around the pool while she held onto the hula hoop.

IMG_6431 After swimming, Autumn decided she needed a push-up popsicle. Dad and I were saying it’s a great day in parenthood when your kid learns to eat a push-up popsicle by themselves so you don’t have to keep pushing it up for them and then they don’t hold it up and it falls to the bottom of the plastic sleeve and then you have to keep doing that over and over and over. Today was the first time I noticed that I didn’t have to help Autumn! Woo hoo!

IMG_6433 But then, on the flip side of that, it’s nice when she falls asleep in our arms like she used to do when she was a little baby. She was so tired that we came in, got dressed, and she went and curled up on Mom’s lap and fell asleep.

IMG_6439 We sat and watched 4 episodes of Hoarders: Buried Alive. I just can’t even believe that people live in such horrible conditions, but it really is a sickness. Anyways, we left Mom & Dad’s at 9:45 to come over to my house to watch the fireworks. Our city does their big 4th of July celebration the Saturday before 4th of July and so tonight was the night.

IMG_6441 It’s funny, b/c we got to the park where we were going to watch the fireworks and after 2 minutes of waiting, Autumn said she needed to go potty. So, we drove back home and when we pulled up to the house she said she didn’t need to go anymore! But, we made her go in and try anyways. We drove back over to the park and the fireworks started. Nick, Dad, Autumn & I got out and sat on the sidewalk and watched the show. Mom stayed in the air-conditioned car to enjoy the show.

IMG_6445 The fireworks were awesome, and it was cool b/c there was a full moon out tonight, too. The show seemed to go by so fast, but it was 20 minutes long! We came home and now I have to get some sleep so I can be ready to give my talk tomorrow.
