Today Autumn’s favorite phrase has been, “Not yet.” This morning when I woke her up she was still kind of groggy, so I had her sit on my lap and give me snuggles. After a few minutes off snuggling, I told her it was time to get ready for the day. She looked up at me and very sweetly said, “Not yet, Mama.” It caught me a little of guard b/c I haven’t heard her say that before. It melted my heart and we snuggled for a few more minutes.
At work today we went to El Fenix for our usual Wednesday enchiladas. It was really nice and I LOVE their chips. They have these little air pockets that make them so crispy and aesthetically pleasing to eat. I should have stopped eating them but my mouth kept telling me, “Not yet!”
After work I went and got little bug and I have been needing so badly to go and get my car washed. It’s embarrassing to admit this, but I haven’t washed the outside of it in probably 2 years!!! I had a coupon for a free car wash from my last oil change and finally used it today. Autumn HATES car washes, so I held her hand while we went through the part where the brushes hit the window. I was about to let go of her hand when she said a little frantically, “Not yet, Mama!” When we finally got out of the car wash, there were some guys standing there to dry off the car and when they got over to Autumn’s side of the car she finally decided she could let go of my hand and waved at the guys drying off the car.
Since the car wash is right next door to the little sno cone shack, I decided to stop and get us a little treat. Autumn had to have a pink colored one, so I got her the pink lemonade flavored one and I got the wedding cake flavored one. I tried to get her to smile at me, but it was super sunny out, so she kept squinting her eyes and this is the best of 3 pictures I took.
I pinned her hair up b/c it was so stinkin’ hot, and I kept asking her if she wanted to go eat our sno cones in the air conditioned car and she would just give me a shy little smile and say, “Not yet, Mama.” I think she said that so much today b/c every time she said it I would start laughing b/c it was so cute to hear her say it.
I was finally able to get her in the car to go home once she finished her sno cone. I scrounged around in the fridge for something to make for dinner and found this orchid that Dad got me for Mother’s Day at the back of the fridge! It’s still in perfect condition after two months. You would think it would be a little wilted but it hasn’t…not yet.
We made dinner and then Autumn wanted to make brownies. She always wants to sit up on the counter to “help” me stir the batter. But, she’s way better at helping to eat a little (or a lot) of the batter.
After about 5 licks of the spatula I told her we needed to put the brownies in the oven and she said, “Not yet, Mama.” She wanted a few more licks of the brownie batter…a girl after my own heart.
After eating brownies and watching SYTYCD, Autumn decided that she wanted to wear a pretty dress just like the girls that were dancing. So, we went in her room and she had me put her Cinderella dress and shoes on. She was twirling around and loved being all dressed up. When it was finally time for bed I asked her if she was ready to take off her dress and she said, “Not yet, Mama.” So, I gave in and let her sleep in her dress.
After we did our nightly ritual of me tucking her into bed and singing her a Primary song (she picked Follow the Prophet tonight), I asked if she wanted me to sing another verse of the song and she said, “No, that’s enough!” So, I guess after all of the “not yets” today she had had enough and was ready to drift off to sleep. I’m so blessed to be her mother!
