Autumn looked so cute in her little sailor dress today. Today was the Sunday that I brought treats for my class b/c all 12 of them have brought their scriptures every Sunday for the past 1 1/2 months and I told them if they did, I would bring a treat. They decided on a pack of gum, so that’s what I got for each of them. It is such a small price to pay! I had been struggling w/ them not bringing their scriptures and then just the same 2 kids would always read the scriptures in class and the others would be wild and crazy and not participate. But, ever since I offered the incentive of a treat they have all brought their scriptures and my most rowdy and disruptive boy has turned a new leaf ever since and is often the one that wants to read! It’s amazing the difference I’ve seen, and all for just a pack of gum. I’m SOOO going to use this with my class next year.
I psyched them out and told them I had forgotten and thought we were doing the treats next week. They were all so bummed out, so after we said the opening prayer I told them I was just kidding and they were all like, “we knew you were just kidding. We pretended that we were upset.” They crack me up. Anyways, I asked them what we want our treat to be from now until the end of the year and I was surprised when they all said they wanted a pizza party at my house! I am so excited for that and I think they are too. I really do have a great group of kids and am so thankful that I get to be their teacher.
After church, we came home and changed & Autumn wanted to wear her dress that Jennifer made her. Talk about another great investment…just $20 for a handmade dress that Autumn wants to wear every day! We changed and then went over to Mom & Dad’s for lunch. Mom made some good German meat that she had a recipe for that she had forgotten about. When Dad got home from work, the kids wanted to go outside and play on the fort with him. He’s such a good Papa and went out there with him even though he had just gotten home from work and probably wanted to watch the football game.
They went down the slide a couple of times and then wanted him to push them not just super high, but “scary high” on the swings. I love this picture b/c you can tell there is movement in Autumn’s dress and her hair flying in the wind.
I noticed a few dark spots on the fig plant and went over to investigate. There were a few ripe figs on the plant so I picked them and let Autumn have one. She has such uncharacteristic tastes for a 3 year old. She ate the one I gave her and wanted another one so bad that she picked one that wasn’t quite ripe yet, but still ate it anyways. Such a funny little bug!
It was finally time to go back in b/c the wind was starting to pick up and it was getting a little cold. I had Dad & the kids line up and then they raced back to the house. I think Dad was nice and let them win. After that, Lexie & Jon & Andrew had to pack up and leave so they could get home at a decent hour. We sure love having them here and are glad they get to come back in a few weeks for Thanksgiving.
We just spent the rest of the evening watching football and relaxing. I had a Single Adult fireside to go to at 6:00 and was able to give another single lady in the ward a ride. It was a great fireside and they had a soup potluck before hand. I was shocked at how many people showed up for the fireside, which was nice to see for a change instead of it being the same 20 people every time. Kevin Hinckley was the speaker and talked about the difference between how men & women think and communicate. It was really funny and enlightening. I got home around 8:45 and got Autumn and we headed home to go to bed so we can get ready for the upcoming week. It was a fabulous weekend!
