We woke up this morning around 8:30 and Dad had Andrew help him make waffles for breakfast. They weren’t just any old waffles, they were special Texas shaped waffles. Dad got out the other waffle maker and made waffles that just have 4 squares. He sat down to eat his and said his waffles were special b/c it was the 4 corners of Utah, Colorado, New Mexico & Arizona. We all got a good laugh out of that and thought that was pretty creative.
I was surprised that Autumn didn’t wake up when I got out of bed, but she had a really fitful night of sleep and was zonked out. Andrew went in to wake her up and let her know it was time for breakfast. He climbed up on the bed next to her and kissed her very softly on the cheek. She moved a little bit but was still sound asleep.
Sleeping Beauty finally woke up and had some breakfast. She was ornery for a while but I got her to be nice by telling her I would paint her nails. She wanted to go outside and play but I told her she had to go stand in front of the fan first so her nails could dry. I looked over and thought it was funny that she was standing there just enjoying the breeze w/ her eyes closed.
Mom & Dad were outside cleaning the pool area and we stuck our feet in on the Shamu Shelf. It’s still really cold and takes your breath away at first but then after a few minutes it feels good. Autumn was being a stinker and wouldn’t smile for the camera.
Dad left his swim trunks hanging on the hook by their bedroom door and a few weeks ago he noticed birds flying in and out of the pant leg. He hasn’t seen any birds in the past few days so he figured the baby birds had hatched and flown away and it would be OK to look at the nest now. It was crazy how the birds had built their nest in the pant leg and it was big and fairly heavy. When he took the nest out to show it to the kids and throw it away, he said it stunk really bad and there must have been a bad egg that didn’t hatch at the bottom of the nest. Who would have thought birds would build their nest in such an odd place?
The kids had a blast riding their scooters around the pool area. We were all keeping a very watchful eye on them and made sure our pockets were empty in case we had to go in after one of them. Andrew had jeans on but Mimi told him to just take them off so he could walk around on the Shamu Shelf. He had a great time just playing and not having to worry about wearing pants. That’s one of the great things about being at Papa & Mimi’s house…you get to do things you usually can’t.
Lexie, Jon, Nick, & I loaded in the Durango and stopped by my house so Nick & I could change clothes (Nick came over wearing nice church pants) and then we ran to WalMart to get some strawberries and grapes. We drove out to Aunt Sandy & Uncle Robert’s. We were 30 minutes early and I have always wanted to eat at this Malt Shop that we pass every time we go to the farm. So, today was the day. I wasn’t sure where to park so I parked to the right of that pole on the far left b/c there was a car parked next to the green trash can and that seemed like the only open spot. As I got out of the car, I heard someone say over the loud speaker, “You’re parked in our drive through!” I just started laughing and climbed back in and drove around to the back and parked there.
Since we were going to be eating lunch soon, we just got 2 shakes. We got strawberry and peach. The strawberry was good, but peach was delicious. We got smalls, and they were only $2.50 and were well worth it. I’m glad I can cross that off my bucket list and say I’ve now been there. Plus, we have a funny story to tell every time we drive past it. We kept saying the rest of the day, “You’re parked in our drive through” and then would just burst out laughing.
We went to Uncle Robert & Aunt Sandy’s and everyone was sitting in a circle out on the grass. They were just talking and enjoying the weather. After a while, we all went in the house and out to the backyard to get the food ready.
They set up the little water table for the kids to play in and Dad found this toad and put it in the water. The babies kept trying to grab it and it eventually jumped out of the water and off into the bushes.
We had hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, drinks, potato salad, Aunt Jolene’s baked beans, and a fruit plate. Once everyone was stuffed, we loaded up and trekked out to the farm. Here’s the obligatory group picture before we turned the kids loose to find Easter eggs.
Lexie & Tyler were having a stomach comparison to see if Tyler’s belly or Lexie’s baby bump was bigger. I think Tyler won that battle.
We turned the kids loose and they all took off running in different directions and Autumn just stood there like she was out of it and not sure what was going on. I took her hand and led her down to this area that was away from the other kids and once she saw the Easter eggs, she took off running. I just saw the pink one in the tree, but once we got down to the tree, there were a ton of eggs and Autumn was able to fill up her basket.
Andrew made a killing w/ how many eggs he got, too. We had so many eggs that all 8 kids had their baskets full. I went to take this picture and someone asked Andrew where his new baby brother was and he was pointing to Lexie’s tummy (even though it looks like he’s pointing at her crotch). LOL!
This was a recipe for disaster and I thought for sure one of them was going to fall and bust their heads open, but they didn’t. One would get off and walk across the whole thing and then the other one would take their turn.
Once all the eggs were found, the kids wanted to open them and see what was inside. Unfortunately, most of the candy was chocolate and it was warm enough today that all the chocolate had melted and was just a mess so we told the kids not to open their eggs until we could get the baskets back to the house and in the fridge to firm up the chocolate. Autumn looked so cute and had such a good time.
I walked over by the pond to try and cool off and enjoy what little breeze there was. Thank goodness that we had some cloud cover, b/c otherwise it would have been miserable. Autumn noticed me walking on the berm and wanted to come out by me. She came running towards me and I thought it was funny how her hair flowing behind her kind of looks like an animal if you glance at it fast.
There were some really pretty wild hot pink flowers growing on the berm and she went and picked one for me and told me to put it behind my ear so I could be pretty. She’s such a little love bug.
We all had sweat forming on our foreheads b/c it was so hot and humid so we loaded back up and went back to the house. All of the kids except for Autumn & Andrew went swimming in the pool even though the pool water was still really cold. Autumn just wanted to play w/ the Poly Pockets in the formal living room and since I hadn’t slept well last night due to her waking up crying multiple times, I went and laid down on the floor and ended up falling asleep. I slept for an hour and it was so nice. I woke up and they were just getting ready to let Peyton dig into his 1st birthday giant sized cupcake. We sang happy birthday and then told him to go at it. At first he didn’t want to but then he just leaned over and started eating it.
They eventually told the older kids that they could help Peyton by sticking one finger into the cupcake to get it going. They were more than happy to help out.
Eventually Peyton figured it out and ended up getting really messy. It was fun to watch and cheer him on. He’s such a cutie.
They had regular sized cupcakes for everyone else to enjoy. It was around 6:00 at this time, so we loaded up and headed home. There was a thunderstorm warning on the drive home and I thought we were going to get pelted w/ rain, but we never did. The sky looked really cool when we pulled in the driveway.
Mom & Lexie & Dad & I all got busy making chicken fajitas for dinner. Mom had marinated some boneless skinless chicken thighs overnight in just lime juice sprinkled w/ dry fajita mix. Dad grilled them up and we got the fixin’s ready. They were so good and we all ate until we were stuffed. We’ll for sure have to make those again.
After we got everything cleaned up, it was time to have fun. We were watching TV and Dad decided that he was going to exercise during the commercials. He was doing some waist twists and Lexie decided to join him.
Lexie said she hasn’t been taking baby bump pictures, so I made her go stand by the wall so we could get one. That’s something I regret that I didn’t do when I was pregnant w/ Autumn.
I spent the rest of the evening editing the 100+ pictures I took today. The kids were playing in the back and Autumn came out and asked Papa if he’d make smoothies, which he hasn’t done in a LONG time. He got out the stuff and turned on the blender and Andrew came flying out of the back room crying b/c Papa had started w/ out him while Andrew was getting his jammies on. That’s why he’s looking so sad in this picture.
But, that was soon remedied when Dad let him help stir up the smoothie. I asked Autumn & Andrew who the luckiest kids in the world and this is what they did. They both raised their hands and started laughing. This has to be my favorite picture of the day b/c they’re just so stinkin’ cute and it sums up how wonderful our day was.
After we ate our smooties, I took Autumn home and put her to bed. She had a big day and still isn’t feeling very good. I am so glad that we have such fun traditions where memories can be created and enjoyed.
