Happy Memorial Day 2011

memorial day This morning Autumn & I were going to get up and go to the ward Memorial Day breakfast at 8:00.  But, since we didn’t go to bed until so late last night, we didn’t make it.  We got up around 9:00 (which is really sleeping in for us) and had breakfast.  Then we went to WalMart so I could get some groceries.  Even though we have fun on Memorial Day, it’s always good to remember the real reason for this holiday and the brave men & women that make our freedom possible.

P1020582 Liz & Liberty came over and we had Ollie North chicken, corn on the cob, watermelon, chips & dip, fruit salad, and pasta salad.  It was so nice out that we ate on the patio.

P1020585 After lunch, Liberty was nice enough to blow bubbles for Autumn to run and chase around.  It’s one of her favorite things to do.

P1020586 The water was cold at first but after about 30 seconds, the water felt good.  Autumn was a little cautious in the water at first, but as you can see in this picture…she got over that really fast and was fearless.  Liz’s facial expression cracks me up.

P1020587 Curt came over to see what all the noise & fun was about.  We got him some food and he was impressed that I was able to make all this w/out Mom.  He thought she was the only cook around here, but he was wrong.  Autumn kept “monkey walking” around the edge of the pool and ended up rubbing the top layer of skin off her pointer and pinki fingers!  Poor little thing.  Uncle Curt was nice and kissed her finger better.  We sat out on the patio and talked for a while.

memorial day 2Curt went home after a while and Liz & Liberty & I sat and watched some episodes of Seinfeld (there wasn’t anything else on TV) b/c Liberty didn’t want to watch Tangled.  After a while, they had to leave to go home to the puppies.  Autumn & I watched Tangled and just relaxed.  We called Nathan and told him thanks for serving in the military and told him we are grateful he’s alive.  I got SO SUNBURNT today w/out even realizing it.  My nose is so red I look like Rudolph.

Today definitely felt like the unofficial beginning of summer for me…the first swim & sunburn of the season.  Autumn & I came home and I put her to bed, brought some food for Nick, and he stayed here while I went to watch the Bachelorette at Christine’s house.  Mary brought a bunch of tissue paper and we helped her make tissue balls for the big multi-stake dance performance that is coming up at the end of the month.  They were a lot of work and I only did about 4 of them before calling it quits.  But, it was fun hanging out w/ the ladies & Jordan and I even got to feed Avery a bottle.

I hope everyone had a chance to stop for a moment today to think of those who have sacrificed so much (including their families).  They are heroes and so brave.  I don’t think I could do what they do…being away from their families and putting their lives on the line.
