Happy Birthday, Mimi!

IMG_2654 Today after work I stopped at Panda Express on the way home and got what Mom picked for her birthday dinner.  She wanted the honey walnut shrimp from Panda Express and their peach drink.  She likes the peach drink so much that I got her 2 huge cups of it…one to drink tonight and one to drink tomorrow.

IMG_2655 The kids were so excited to sing Happy Birthday that they sang to her before we ate dinner.

IMG_2657 For dessert, Mom requested raspberries.  She’s been so good about her diabetes and we were happy to give her a treat she could eat.  We all sang Happy Birthday to her again.

IMG_2658And she blew out her candle and made a wish.  Who says you need cupcakes or cake or pie to celebrate a birthday?  The rest of us had cut up strawberries drizzled w/ honey and topped w/ whipped cream.  We gave her a birthday card w/ some money in it that she can use for her next nail appointment.  After we ate, it was time for swim lessons so we packed up the kids and headed out the door.

It’s a good thing that we keep the kids’ towels until they need them at the end of class, b/c I need them to wipe the sweat off my forehead.  After their lessons, we stopped by the store to get Mom her final birthday present.  She said she really wanted to watch Pretty Woman, which is one of her all time favorite movies so we found a copy and bought it.

We gave her the present and she said she would watch it later.  We watched America’s Got Talent and Lexie & Mom got me hooked on an Egyptian game that’s like the Supermarket Mania.  Before I knew it, it was already 10:00 so I grabbed Autumn and we came home.  I put her to  bed and blogged and am now watching Whose Line.

I am so glad that we got to celebrate Mom’s 55th birthday.  First of all, I don’t think she looks 55 at all.  She is not only my mother, but also my best friend.  I really can’t even begin to imagine what my life would be like without her.  We see each other everyday and talk on the phone all the time.  She has this special Hatch gene that attracts people to her.  She always makes sure everyone is well fed, happy, and comfortable.  She is the oil that keeps our family running smoothly.  She is an incredible cook and amazing seamstress and quilter.  I am thankful to be her daughter and am glad we got to celebrate her life with her today.
