Today at work I read more of the “Nineteen Minutes” book and it’s just fascinating and really had made me think. I’ll post about all my thoughts once I finish the book. After work/school, we went over to Mom & Dad’s and some guys were there installing a new light/fan in the living room. Dad said he had something to show us. We went outside and he had caught an armadillo in the live trap. We loaded it in the back of the truck and headed to the lake.
Here’s the poor little guy. It was kind of cool to get to look at an armadillo that up close. I know they have the hard exterior shell, but it also has lots of hairs between the layers of the shell. He looked so sad, so I was happy we were going to let him go where he could “run and jump and be happy” as Mom would say.
We let him go and I thought he would take off, but he just sauntered off and took his time checking out his new surroundings. While we were letting him go, a cop in an unmarked car was patrolling around and drove up and was just curious as to what we had released. I knew we weren’t in trouble, but it still made me nervous to have a cop checking on us.
I was shocked at how much the water line has receded. These are the same wooden poles that Dad & Autumn were throwing rocks at back at the end of March when we went to the lake to release a squirrel we had caught. Of course Nate had to climb up there and show off his crane kick. I thought this was a cool shot w/ the moon in the background.
Dad tried getting Autumn to plank on one of the poles, but she didn’t want to and she couldn’t hold herself up there anyways.
Nate attempted planking and I was worried he was going to injure himself. But he gets total props for doing it and pulling it off. It took so much strength and he was only able to hold this pose for a few seconds b/c of how hard it was to do.
We had fun throwing rocks into the water and then headed home b/c it was getting dark and the mosquitoes came out. It’s usually tradition to go to Sonic and get a treat after we release an animal at the lake. But, we just came home and Dad made a smoothie instead. It was really good b/c he did 1/2 pina colada mix and 1/2 strawberry daiquiri mix.
I got Autumn to bed and then went grocery shopping b/c we were out of lots of staple items like milk and eggs and bread. I didn’t get home until 11:30, but love that alone time to shop and just walk around the store. I’m glad that Mom & Dad live out in the country so Autumn can experience seeing animals like armadillos and zipper spiders and squirrels and baby skunks.
