I don’t know why I always look like I have a black tooth at the bottom back of my mouth. I had to go double check it in the bathroom mirror just to make sure. It’s definitely NOT a black tooth since I don’t even have any fillings back there. It’s b/c I smile so big that it’s the space between my teeth and side of my mouth and it shows up black on the picture. Plus I don’t know what’s w/ Autumn resting her arm on my chest. I was also trying to get the words “love” behind us on the wall but didn’t get the “L”. Oh, well…this is the best one we could get. At least Autumn looks adorable.
I just love this dress on her, especially since I got a great deal on it at the kids consignment store. I had originally gotten this dress for her to wear to Michael’s wedding reception, but she didn’t go and it’s been cute for her to wear to church.
Sharing time today was SO GOOD! The lesson was about how our bodies are temples. We talked about the scripture 1 Corinthians 3:16-17 which says, “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? . . . The temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.” Sis. Gillespie used a Mrs. Potato Head to talk about how we can take care of our bodies. She had kids come up and pick a body part out of a box and then she talked about how that body part had to do with treating our body like a temple. She used things from For The Strength Of Youth. Below are some of the things she used:
- Eyes ~ We should only view good things
“Do not attend, view, or participate in entertainment that is vulgar, immoral, violent, or pornographic in any way. Do not participate in entertainment that in any way presents immorality or violent behavior as acceptable.” - Ears ~ We should only listen to good things
”Music is an important and powerful part of life. It can be an influence for good that helps you draw closer to Heavenly Father. However, it can also be used for wicked purposes. Unworthy music may seem harmless, but it can have evil effects on your mind and spirit. Choose carefully the music you listen to. Pay attention to how you feel when you are listening.” - Mouth ~ We shouldn’t gossip or say bad words
”How you speak says much about who you are. Clean and intelligent language is evidence of a bright and wholesome mind. Use language that uplifts, encourages, and compliments others. Do not insult others or put them down, even in joking. Speak kindly and positively about others so you can fulfill the Lord’s commandment to love one another. When you use good language, you invite the Spirit to be with you.” - Arms & Feet ~ We should exercise and also give service to others
”The Lord has commanded you to take good care of your body. Eat nutritious food, exercise regularly, and get enough sleep. When you do all these things, you remain free from harmful addictions and have control over your life. You gain the blessings of a healthy body, an alert mind, and the guidance of the Holy Ghost.” - Hair ~ We should use good hygiene and take care of our outside appearance
”Prophets of God have always counseled His children to dress modestly. The way you dress is a reflection of what you are on the inside. Your dress and grooming send messages about you to others and influence the way you and others act. When you are well groomed and modestly dressed, you invite the companionship of the Spirit and can exercise a good influence on those around you.” - Earrings ~ We should not have body piercings or tattoos
”Do not disfigure yourself with tattoos or body piercings. If girls or women desire to have their ears pierced, they are encouraged to wear only one pair of modest earrings.” We would never put graffiti on the temple or put lots of holes in it, so why would we do that to our bodies? - Nose ~ We should always be honest so our nose won’t grow like Pinocchio
(I wondered how she was going to use the nose to convey treating our bodies like a temple and was really impressed w/ how she tied that in.)
”Be honest with yourself, others, and the Lord. When you are honest in every way, you build strength of character that will allow you to be of great service to God and others. You will be blessed with peace of mind and self-respect. When you are honest, you will be trusted by the Lord and by those around you.”
I was very impressed with how well done it was and the thought and preparation went into sharing time. The kids really responded well to it and paid really close attention. I know it made a lasting impression on me.
We watched Night At The Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian and it was really cute. I never saw the original one but liked this one a lot, especially the Amelia Earhart character played by the fabulous Amy Adams. Dad slept through most of the movie b/c he was tired and Autumn wasn’t asleep but enjoyed lounging on Papa & the new couch. After that, we watched Flipped which is also a super cute movie.
Autumn talked Papa into letting her have a bowl of ice cream before dinner. He is SUCH A PUSH OVER! He was never like that with us kids, but I’m happy that he’s more relaxed w/ the grandkids.
Mom & Nate made fried zucchini for dinner and we also had chicken cordon bleu and tater tots w/ pink sauce. I think this is such a cute (and rare that Nate’s cooking) picture of Mom & Nate together.
We went outside to check on our zipper spider and noticed that there is now a 2nd one that made it’s next above the bushes and a third one that’s around the brick corner of the house! It’s like a zipper spider party. Autumn & I came home and I put her to bed and watched Drop Dead Diva. This coming week is going to be full of fun!
