Today was CUH-RAZY! After work it was non-stop for the next 4 hours. I rushed to daycare to get Autumn and we ran to WalMart to grab a bite to eat. We walked in and went to the deli counter to order a chicken tender meal. The guy behind the counter was over washing dishes and looked at us waiting there at the counter, but didn’t come over or even say he would be right w/ us. We stood there for another 3 minutes, which doesn’t sound like a very long time but it is when you’re waiting and are in a time crunch. He finally came over but went to the sink to wash his hands first and took his time. He finally sauntered over and asked what we wanted. He didn’t even apologize for keeping us waiting. I wanted to say something about it but decided to just hold my tongue.
I ordered the chicken tender meal and he said it would be about 3-4 minutes b/c he had to cook the chicken. I wanted to tell him to just forget it, but just then Autumn said she needed to go potty so I took her and hoped the food would be ready when we came back. We got up to the counter and luckily the food was ready. I decided to be nice even though I wasn’t feeling nice. He ended up giving us 3 HUGE chicken tenders, and I’m not even kidding when I say they were the size of a whole chicken breast. We also got fried okra and potato salad for only $3.75. I don’t know if that’s how much it usually costs, b/c if so I should get that for dinner every single day. I’m glad I chose kindness over rudeness.
Anyways, by this time it was 5:58 and I needed to drop Autumn off at Decker’s at 6:00. I scarfed down a chicken tender while I drove. I threw Autumn out at Decker’s and rushed off to pick up one of the young women for our class presidency meeting at 6:15. I was running late so I called Sis. Lee to let her know. Luckily, she said she had to go pick up one of the girls as well so she was running late too. We had a rushed presidency meeting b/c we didn’t start until 6:30 and had to be done by 7:00.
Because some of these girls are going to be graduating in a few months, we decided to have a cooking activity w/ a fun twist. We split the girls up into 3 teams. Each team got $5 to buy food to feed everyone. One group was in charge of the appetizer, one was in charge of the entree, and one was in charge of the dessert. We went to WalMart and they had 5 minutes to go get whatever ingredients they wanted to use within their $5 budget.
We went back to one of the girls’ house where the girls prepared their food and then they sat down to eat. The appetizer group made bruschetta, the entree group did pasta w/ red sauce or alfredo sauce, and the dessert group did vanilla pudding w/ Oreo cookies. I was super impressed w/ how well they did. Sis. Lee and I just sat at the counter and listened to the girls talk. It’s fun to do activities like this every once in a while where the girls can just relax and be themselves.
I had to leave b/c it was already 8:30 and I needed to go pick up Autumn at Decker’s and get her home and into bed. I LOVE the Decker’s so much. I felt so bad when I found out that Karri had the Mia Maids (girls 14-15) activity at her house. The last thing she needed was to be worrying about Autumn. But, she said Autumn & Kenzie went upstairs and played and had a great time and it wasn’t a big deal at all. They are so good to us.
Autumn & I came home and I felt like I could finally relax and take a breath from all the non-stop rushing. All in all it ended up being a good day even if it was a little stressful and busy. It all worked out in the end.
