I was thinking of cleaning out Autumn’s toy box the other day and wondered what toys she would remember years from now. I wondered what toys I should keep that she would later want and which ones she wouldn’t remember. That got me to thinking about what toys I remember from my childhood. The first one that came to mind was this awesome & functional toy. It was Christmas of 1981 and I was 2 years old. It was a slide/desk/see saw in one. You could walk up the stairs and slide down the front of it. Or you could sit on one of the steps and use the top step as a desk. Or you could turn it over and it was a see saw. I think Mom later painted this brown, and I remember loving it and using it all the time.
After finding that picture, I kept looking through my scrapbook to find a picture of my favorite pajamas. These aren’t it, but I did love these jammies w/ the red lace trim. As I was looking at these jammies, I couldn’t help but notice the toys in the picture. This was Christmas 1982. To this day, I can still remember every single one of these 5 toys and how much I enjoyed playing w/ them.
Mom said she made that yellow/white checkered doll carrier. That Fisher Price Play Family Action Garage was awesome. I could turn a crank and raise the elevator, and then when it got to the top the car would slide out and go down the ramp.
I have scoured the internet to find who made that white doll house w/ the bassinet on top. I haven’t been able to find out any info. :( I distinctly remember play w/ that and the little doll and giving her baths in that little pink thing under Mom’s hand.
I found this INCREDIBLE website called This Old Toy that gives a ton of detailed info about Fisher Price toys. Another toy that I got that Christmas was the Fisher Price Kitchen Sink #918. I thought I was hot stuff b/c I could really wash dishes by putting water in the blue holes on the left hand side. Then by pushing on the blue handle on the faucet, water would come out. I felt so grown up when I could wash my own dishes at the same time Mom washed dishes.
I think my favorite toy of all was the Fisher Price School Days Desk #176. I found one for sale on Ebay & bought it. It was only missing the letter “M”. I loved this one b/c I would write on the chalkboard and pretend like I was a teacher and would play “school” all the time. The “Bath” card was by far my favorite b/c I liked the lady’s pretty red hair and up-do. I am excited to share this w/ Autumn and let her practice spelling w/ it.
I wasn’t planning on buying this Fisher Price Medical Kit #936, but it was a package deal sold w/ the School Days Desk on Ebay. I remember using this on Dad b/c he was in medical school at the time and I wanted to be like him and have my own doctor’s kit. I knew the medical terms for things. For example, I would say that my cranium hurt instead of my head. Or my patella instead of my knee.
This is the picture I had gone searching for in the first place. I got these jammies for my birthday in 1984. They were silky jammies and then had this tricot fabric for the robe. I think I wore them so much that they finally fell apart. This is one of those things that I wish I still had to pass down to Autumn. But, I’m glad that they were worn out from being so used and loved and enjoyed.
What are some of your favorite toys from your childhood?

These are great flash back pictures. I was always dying for an American girl doll, but never got one.
