I’m glad we ended up sending the night last night, b/c I was planning on making Mom breakfast in bed for Mother’s Day. However, she woke up while I was cooking b/c she heard the dishes clanking. We had omelets and bacon, since she can eat all of those things on her diabetes diet. The omelets turned out pretty good if I do say so myself. Once Autumn finally woke up (I think she must be going through a growth spurt b/c she has been sleeping a lot lately), we gave Mom her Mother’s Day presents. Autumn got her a big food tent to cover the food from flies and bugs when we eat outside. I gave her the “goal dress” she had tried on at Cato’s.
I did up the dishes and then Autumn and I came home so we could put together a few little gifts and get ready for church. I made some fudge and then put it in the fridge to set up so we could put it in little baggies w/ these cute cards to give to some ladies at church. I just used some left over cards I had from my original Project Life kit.
Autumn didn’t want to cooperate when it was time to take pictures, so I just had Nick take one of me by myself. Dad gets Mom an orchid corsage every year for Mother’s Day, and he’s gotten me one too. I look forward to it every year and was glad he got me a bright and sunny yellow one.
Church was nice, even though Autumn refused to go up and sing a Mother’s Day song w/ all the other Primary kids. My lesson in YWomen’s on temple marriage went well and the girls really seemed to like this picture that I put in a small 4x6 frame for each of them. I got the picture for free from HERE.
After church we went over to Mom & Dad’s house and Mom had made Thai Chicken stir fry for lunch and it was super good. After we ate, we drove out to one of the clinics to see Dad since he was working a regular shift. We took him some of the stir fry and sat and visited for a little bit. Of course they had been slow before we got there, and then shortly after he ate it got really busy so we had to leave so he could work.
Autumn and I didn’t stay long at Mom’s after that so she could relax and have a quiet Mother’s Day evening. We hurried home and then went over to Liz & Lib’s to take Liz some fudge and wish her a Happy Mother’s Day. We didn’t stay there long either, b/c Autumn wanted to just be at home and play w/ her dolls. So, we came home and played dolls, danced around the living room, did dishes, and then I watched the series finale of Desperate Housewives. I used to have a party at my apartment every Sunday night when I lived in Utah to watch Desperate Housewives. Friends would come over and we would drink virgin pina coladas out of fancy plastic cups and watch it. Then I quit watching it for a long time b/c it was just too racy for me. But, since it was the series finale I decided to watch this episode for old time’s sake.
It was a good Mother’s Day and I’m thankful beyond what words can express for both of my grandmothers who raised such great people to be my parents. I’m thankful for my mother and how close we are. I’m thankful that I get the choice and blessed opportunity to be a mother.
Like Sheri Dew said in this incredible talk entitled “Are We Not All Mothers?”, “Motherhood is more than bearing children…it is the essence of who we are as women.” So, HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY to all the women of the world!
