This morning Autumn & I got up at 8:00, got dressed, and headed to a city about 30 minutes away. Autumn threw a FIT and it was not pretty getting out the door, but we made it. We went to help put together meals for the homeless. They ask for donations of tortilla chips, cookies, bread, cheese, meat, plain mustard, or Ziploc bags. Autumn & I took some Ziploc bags and 2 huge bags of chips from Costco. It was really crowded inside the restaurant/bar that was allowing the event to be held there, so we sat outside on the patio while we waited for the event to get started. It was so cool to watch how many people showed up and how much food was being donated.
The event finally got started and I'm glad the lady in the hat sat at the table w/ Autumn & I. She had done this last month and knew what we needed to do. This cute family got there late and needed a place to help so we told them to join us.
We had a system down and were super efficient but we also had a lot of fun while we worked. We will for sure be making this a monthly tradition in our house. We had such a GREAT TIME rubbing shoulders with these strangers turned friends. I'm thankful for this group for providing such a great opportunity to serve as families.
It was all done after an hour and a half, and it was time so well spent. It was cool to see how much food was put together when it was all done. All those bags under the table and on the left hand side of the picture are full of Ziploc baggies of cookies & chips. Then the tin trays on the table have 20 sandwiches in each one. It felt good to be part of something so beneficial to others.
When we finished there, we went to the store so I could buy a new wallet. Mine is literally falling apart, so I needed to get a new one.
We came home & I went in Autumn's room w/ her and told her she had to quit "organizing" (she's been organizing for months) and that it was time to actually put stuff away. I set the timer for 30 minutes so she had a time limit. She was able to get everything off of her floor, put away, and even had time to vacuum before the 30 minutes was up. I'm very proud of her.
After that I had a hankerin' to watch Little Women but we only have it on VHS and our VHS player broke several months ago. We went to a local store that has discounted DVD's and we got Little Women for just $5. Since Autumn did so good on cleaning her room we went and got some frozen yogurt.
We spent the rest of the evening watching Little Women, cooking dinner, and cleaning up the kitchen. Today felt like a "bonus" day since yesterday felt like Saturday. It's going to be hard going back to a normal work week after having two four-day weekends in a row.
