I have been wanting to go to one of Curt’s hockey games with Mary for a while, but I never knew when they were. Well, since Scott is in town for Thanksgiving from BYU, Mary called and said their whole family was going to go and watch Curt & Scott play tonight. The game was at 10:00 pm (late, I know) they came and picked me up at 9:15 and we headed off to the ice rink.
This is Ryan, and Curt used to coach him in hockey a few years ago. I work w/ Ryan now and had to get a picture of the two of them together, b/c how often does a student get to play on the same team as their former coach?
Ashley & Jordan even came and brought Avery & Jae. Avery is TOO CUTE and was having the time of his life.
Mary gets him to do this thing where he shakes his head back and forth and then screams really loud. We were all laughing so hard. It’s super funny.
We couldn’t hear what he was saying, but Curt kept trash talking to guys on the other team. He says that he never starts the fights, but he always finishes them. The name on the back of Curt’s jersey was Santarcangelo and we were laughing about that b/c Mary had no idea where that jersey came from. We didn’t know how to pronounce it so we kept yelling, “Go Santa-blah-blah-blah-blah.”
He got put in the penalty box in the first 2 minutes of the game. Then in the 2nd period, both he and a guy from the other team got put in the penalty box at the same time. The other guy was accusing Curt of breaking his hockey stick and was telling him he was going to get him in the parking lot after the game. Curt just laughed and ignored him.
Here’s the team taking a break during a time out in the 3rd period. It was tied 3 to 3 and then the other team scored a goal in overtime. Dang it! But, it was still a fun game.
Connor(the son of a guy Curt works with), Scott, Ryan & Curt
We were the only spectators in the rink, and were having a BLAST! We were laughing and talking 1/2 the time and not even paying attention to the game. Then we would yell out the names of the 4 players we knew. Mary had told me to bring a jacket and a blanket, and I wasn’t going to bring a blanket b/c I am always a “hot mama” and thought I would enjoy the cold. And I did…for the first 10 minutes. Then it was freezing and I was glad I brought a blanket. Mary kept Avery wrapped up in her blanket and Ashley kept Jae wrapped up. She’s so cute and just a few weeks old!
Here’s the whole Johnson crew.
By this time, it was after midnight and Jessie said she wanted to go get some hot chocolate since it wouldn’t be breaking the Sabbath. I thought we were just going to go to a gas station and get some. Nope, Curt took us to IHOP and everyone (except Mary b/c she’s on a special diet) got real food. I didn’t get home and into bed until 1:30, but it was so much fun and I’m so glad I went. I was tempted not to go b/c I was so tired from moving and being up late the past few nights. I’m glad I decided to Carpe Diem b/c now I have some great pictures and memories to show for it.
