I don’t know why I didn’t take any pictures on Friday, but I didn’t. It was just work/school, and then we went to Mom & Dad’s house b/c Andrew & Lexie & Jon & the baby came up for the weekend since Jon has a conference here for a few days. We just hung out, watched TV, the kids played, and then Autumn & I spent the night so she could have as much time w/ Drew as possible.
This morning we woke up & Alfie, Andrew’s Elf on the Shelf, had magically followed him up here! He even brings Andrew little gifts every day, if he was good the day before. Today he got a Go Fish card game. Mimi was so cute and sat down at the kitchen table to play Go Fish w/ the kids. They were thrilled & both did a good job playing the game and taking turns.
After the kids had fun playing, us adults wanted to have some fun so we got out a Christmas puzzle. We were able to start it and finish it in the same day b/c we are puzzle maniacs! The kids kept wanting to “help” but they really couldn’t b/c the pieces were so small. So, Mimi got them a Dora puzzle of their own that they could work on together. Here they are showing off the finished puzzles.
The kids & I had been cooped up all day b/c it’s been raining. We were getting a little stir crazy, so we went on a walk since the rain had let up and it was just a fine mist/drizzle. We walked over to the lot to see about throwing sticks in the stream but it was too muddy. So, we went over and took a picture in front of the barn b/c I don’t know how much longer it will be standing. It looks like it’s going to fall over any day. SNIFF SNIFF!
Then we walked across the street so the kids could run around in this open field. However, we got to the field and it started POURING rain out of nowhere. So, I told the kids to start running to the old airplane hangar & I followed them. I tried to snap this picture while running, which is why it’s blurry. We were having so much fun and laughing non-stop.
We were surprised to find all these bales of hay in the old hangar, and the kids wanted to climb on them but I told them we couldn’t since they weren’t ours. They ran around in the hangar for a minute while we waited for the rain to let up. It finally did and we headed home. The best part was when we got close to home and Andrew said, “that wasn’t just a walk, that was an adventure!” I couldn’t have said it better myself, Andrew.
We let the kids dry off for a while and relax while Lexie fed the baby and got cleaned up. Then we loaded all the kids in the car (I was surprised that 2 car seats & the baby seat all fit in the back seat) and went over to the church for the annual crèche. Our favorites were the one made out of chocolate, the one that was rubber ducks, and then of course all of Mom’s b/c she has her very own section. Dad surprised her w/ a brand new painting. It’s called Mother’s Love by Del Parsons and he got her print 1/50. The kids lost interest pretty fast but luckily they had a lady singing some Christmas music & it was gorgeous and they sat & listened just mesmerized.
When it was time to leave, it was quite an ordeal. It started pouring rain & then Lexie realized Baby Jackson had pooped so she had to go change him. I loaded the other 2 kids in the car and pulled as close to the front door of the church as I could. When Lexie & the baby came out, I got the 2 umbrellas I had in the back of the car and covered myself and then covered Lexie & the baby. I held both umbrellas over us while she put the baby in his baby carrier. I was doing pretty good until a wind came along and moved the umbrella and water went right down Lexie’s back and she let out a scream. Then she couldn’t get Jackson’s seat belt to click and by this time we were both laughing so hard. It was so comical and we were frustrated w/ the situation but couldn’t help but laugh to keep from crying.
We stopped at Lane Bryant so I could run in and get a few things I really needed b/c they were on sale & Lexie stayed out in the car w/ the kids. Next, Andrew really wanted to see the musical tree since Autumn kept telling him about how cool it was. The rain had lightened up to just a light sprinkle/drizzle so we let the kids go run around the tree & dance & play while we sat where it was dry & near a heater. It was starting to get cold, so we told them they could dance to one more song and then we had to go.
Wouldn’t you know it that as soon as it was time to go, it started raining really hard. Then Andrew said he needed to go potty! I had gone to get the car & pull it as close as I could. So, Lexie waited till I got out of the car and then took Andrew to the bathroom & I put Autumn in the car and stood by Jackson’s carrier b/c Andrew had to get in before we put in the carrier. By this point I am SOAKED even w/ the umbrella. There were puddles everywhere and I had on Crocs that had holes in them, so my shoes were soaking wet as well. Lexie & Andrew came out and Andrew was freaking out b/c he was getting wet. Then I had to hold the umbrella for Lexie again while she strapped Jackson in. We were laughing again at the dumb luck we had w/ the rain. We vowed never to do anything like this again b/c it was so crazy.
We stopped by my house so I could get some dry clothes for Autumn & I to change into once we got back to Mom & Dad’s house. We all ate some soup b/c we were hungry and cold. Then at 6:45 Mom & Dad & Nick & I headed over to the church to take down all of Mom’s nativities. Julie F. (the one in the yellow vest) is the BEST & has set up Mom’s nativities for the past 4 years and always helps us take them down. She’s awesome. Usually Connie J. helps us take them down too but she was swamped being in charge of the whole thing. So, Sis. Mannewitz helped us. Luckily most of the nativities fit in big plastic bins Mom has, b/c it was still lightly raining. The nativities that only fit in certain cardboard boxes went in the back of mine & Mom’s cars so they would stay dry.
We were done by 8:15 and went home to put all the wet plastic bins in the garage to dry out before we put them away in the attic upstairs. I’m glad that Lexie & Jon were able to watch Autumn for me. We basically spent the rest of the night just relaxing and watching TV. We finally called it a night at 10:00, and I’m glad the crèche is over for another year.
