Yesterday I got a text from an incredible person from my past. My Young Woman’s teacher, Diana. She said that she and her husband were passing through town on their way to pick up her kids from her ex-husband so they could spend the summer w/ her and wanted to know if I wanted to get together with them. I told them to come over to Mom & Dad’s and swim instead of us meeting at a loud and noisy and expensive restaurant. As soon as 5:00 hit, I was out the door and stopped to get Autumn and then we ran to the grocery store. I came home and started cooking like a mad woman. Luckily they were a little late and got here at 6:30 instead of 6:00. I grilled hamburgers and hot dogs and corn on the cob. We also had pasta salad and watermelon. After we ate, we all got in our swimsuits so we could relax in the pool.
Diana’s husband, Carl, is so friendly and fun and outgoing and we all just clicked and got along famously. I am SO HAPPY that Diana is so happy. They are just too cute together.
Diana had asked if one of her friends could come, and I said of course…the more the merrier. They all had a great time shooting basketballs while I played w/ Autumn and made sure she didn’t drown.
They had a long drive ahead of them, so we finally got out of the pool around 8:30 and had dessert. Diana had brought éclairs and strawberries and cheesecake. Our hair is all wet and we have on no makeup, but we still had to get a picture together. It was such a pleasure having them stop by for a little bit.
The last time I saw her, was in October of 2009. A lot has changed in her life since then and I am so glad. She only deserves happiness and good things.
The last time I had seen her before that was back in June 2006 when she and her family came to visit me in Utah. I had only been married for a month and it was great to see her then, as well. I was telling her tonight that I still remember a bunch of lessons that she taught in Young Women’s. I don’t think she’ll ever know the huge impact she had on my life. She’s just one of those people that I had a special and instant bond and connection with. I hope we get to keep seeing each other for many years to come.
