I wish my body would let me sleep in on Saturdays, but it’s so used to getting up at the same time during during the week that I just naturally wake up. Anyways, at the last minute (as in 7:50) I decided we should participate in the neighborhood yard sale. So, I had Nick help me bring down some stuff that we have in the playroom upstairs that we don’t use anymore. I had overpriced everything, that way if people offered a low # we could come to an agreement that would be around what I was willing to let it go for. I posted this pic on Facebook & my cousin Heather posted that she would pay me $20 for Nick! LOL! Then our other cousin Zack posted he would pay $25. A few other people got in on it and I think the most was $40. Too funny!
We didn’t end up selling anything, but that’s OK b/c it wasn’t like we had to get rid of anything yet. I’ll probably post some of the items on Facebook & Craigslist.
We only had our stuff out for 45 minutes, b/c Autumn & I left to go walking around the park w/ the Young Women at 9:00. Autumn came dressed wearing a necklace, a flower clip & sunglasses. LOL! I guess she prefers fashion over comfort when walking. It felt good to be outside & get some exercise. It wasn’t too hot when we started, but by 9:38 it was already hot & humid!
Autumn & I left at 9:40 instead of walking all the way until 10:00 b/c I needed to drop her off at Mom & Dad’s so I could go home & shower & get ready for a baby shower for a lady in my ward. However, by the time we got over to Mom & Dad’s & I ate breakfast I was already late. So, I just stayed & helped Dad & Nick with yard work. I mowed the back yard w/ the riding lawn mower & then mowed the dog pen w/ the hand mower. We were so stinkin’ hot after working outside that we were going to jump in the pool.
But, Mom came downstairs from sewing & said that Dad has seen a farmers market set up in the mall parking lot & said we should get some homemade tamales for dinner just to try them out for fun. We wanted to go, so we loaded in the car & headed over there. They let us try a sample, and we ended up getting a dozen for $15. We even got a half a dozen of the dessert ones (cheesecake) to try. The rest of the farmers market tents were pretty lame.
We stopped & got McDonald’s for lunch (the tamales were frozen so we saved those for dinner) & came home to eat. The weather was so nice that we ate out on the patio for the first time this season. I envision lots more fun meals outside on the patio this summer.
Autumn & I were brave (crazy) & went swimming even though the water was really BRISK (cold) & refreshing. After swimming around for a few minutes, we didn’t notice the cold and just enjoyed our first swim of the season. I was dumb and didn’t put any sunscreen on my arms so they got pretty sunburned. I finally had to make Autumn get out so we could go inside. We watched a movie & cooked up the tamales for dinner (steaming them for 7 minutes was the best way we found to cook them).
Then I left and came home to get ready to go to a Single Adult Luau that was about a 45 minute drive away. I’m very selective about what Single Adult activities I go to, just b/c I like to spend as much time as I can w/ Autumn. But, I couldn’t pass up the chance to go to a luau. Here I am all decked out in my Poly stuff. ALOHA!!!!!!
I was surprised when I looked up the directions to find that it was at someone’s house! But, when I got out there I saw why. They had a HUGE patio & backyard that were made for entertaining. There was a small kitchen out there, a flat screen TV, a big pool, etc. I was immediately drawn to this pot of big flowers. Each flower was about the size of my hand!!!
I didn’t really know anyone there really well, but by the end of the night I was best buddies w/ these 3 lovely ladies (Carolina, Stacey & Emilee). We were just drawn to each other & kept saying how surprised we were that we all just seemed to “click.” I was sitting at the table alone at first & Stacey came over & said, “you just glow and seem like someone I’d be friends with.” AWWWW! She reminded me a lot of my fabulous cousin, Jennifer. It was a BLAST sitting w/ them, b/c we just talked and laughed and had a great time. Also, the food was super good, the table decorations were perfect, and there were a lot of people there.
We were anxious for the Polynesian dancers to get there, since they were 1 1/2 hours late. It was really windy earlier in the evening and we were told that the fire dancer wouldn’t be able to use the fire if it was too windy. We kept joking that we didn’t care … he could just stand there & be eye candy for us. We were all hoping that the fire dancer would be a big guy, so when this short guy walked in we all looked at each other & just started laughing. But, it was still a great show that the 3 women dancers & this guy put on. The party finally ended at 10:00 & I drove home. It was weird to be at home w/out Autumn there (she spent the night at Mom & Dad’s). It was a super fun evening, and I’m so glad I went!!!
